auto shifter cable to steering wheel.

alright I'm getting ready to turn my 00 into a 3.8 automatic ( sadlly ) but 200k on a trans and motor.... vs 60k trans + motor - 60k won.

The question I have at the moment... an automatic shifter has the linkage cable that goes to the back of the steering colum to lock it.. well would I be able to get away with putting the auto shifter in and not connecting the line to the back? what if any issues would this cause?

You're referring to the tiny switch located behind the key on your steering column right? It's my understanding that if you're going to an automatic then you have no need to put anything there as that switch is sort of a lock if sorts that autos don't have since they just slip into park and don't have to worry about rolling in most cases
