Dad's '88 5.0 Mustang

My dad used to have an '88 5.0, and ever since I got my mustang, all he does is talk about how fast it was. Has anyone heard of an unmodified 5.0 doing a 1/4 mile in 9 seconds, give or take a couple?

An unmodded 5.0 doing 9 in the quarter no. The 1/8 mile maybe.

Re: Dad's '88 5.0 Mustang

Not a chance. 15 seconds at best! But hey he's your father, if he wants relive his memory's some how threw your mustang let him think what he wants to think the specs on the 1988 are as follows....... The Mustang LX5.0 continues to do well in sales, as it offers all the amenities of the GT without the 200 extra pounds the GT package adds. In addition, the LX body style perfectly conceals the powerful 5.0L V8 engine, creating the ultimate wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Re: Dad's '88 5.0 Mustang

I admit that I do this... somehow I remember all of my Chevelles, Camaros, Firebirds, Vettes, and such as being faster than they probably were... I have not however claimed to have owned a 9 second car. LOL!

My Mustang isn't fast, but 25 years from now I'll probably tell people it got better MPG than a Prius...
