HID's are not illegal. Many cars come with factory HID's. I think the color temperature is what will get you in trouble. I would avoid buying any HID's with the color temperature over 10000K.
I've got 3000K fog lights and 4300K headlights. If you like the blue tone, a 6000K or an 8000K would look great.

I had 6k installed and no joke got pulled over that night. I didn't get a ticket though... That's why I'm confused. Why pull me over for the lights and then not give me a ticket?

Re: HID lights

You need retrofitted projectors whether it's legal or not......

Otherwise everyone you meet at night will hate you, it blinds them, imagine someone running up on you with their brights on..... Same concept

Just FYI... I did tons of research on this and for most states I found info for, they're illegal unless the model of car, and the model year had hids for some package (factory hids). The main reason is housings not designed for hids and even when you retrofit, it's still illegal because your housings aren't DOT approved housings.

Oh, and btw... I have hids too. I just got 4500Ks to keep cops from messing with me.

That makes sense but I don't see how cops would be able to tell if your HID's were factory or not. Unless you're driving a '91 civic... Lol. I've personally had HID's on all my cars and never been given a problem by the fuzz. I always go with the 4300k. I love that Hyper White, never cared for the blue tones.

According to some bum on Yahoo Answers, he stated that the color temperature over 6000k in Georgia is illegal. Anything less is good.

Just passing that on, not sure if it's true...

Eh, not what I found but yeah, that's the thing, you won't be bothered if I looks stock and your car is new enough. But technically, if he knew our cars well enough he would know that any mustang before 2010 had hids, but it's really if the cops notice. I think I'm gonna switch to 5000ks though, I like the pure white but mine are starting to fade a bit.

It comes down to this. If a cop wants to pull you over, HID's or not, they'll find a reason legal or not. Cops suck that way.

Ok I talked to a cop who I happen to b friends with... He said that in Georgia they are told that people with HID lights race and usually have other illegal mods on there cars. He said they would pull you over using the lights as a reason but won't right the ticket cuz it's only a $40 ticket...
