Hit a deer! Oh Dear!

Buckled hood, left fender, left door, grill, left headlight, bumper cover, radiator support, bunch of other small pieces under the hood

Estimate is $4,131.48. HOLY BALLS! And that is a LEGIT estimate BEFORE the typical body shop number manipulation.

Body shop owner is one of my best friends for 25+ years... he is hookin me up with Cobra bumper, foglights, and hood and a complete paint job. Maybe... Maybe not, because at that dollar amount I wonder if the insurance company is just gonna declare it a total loss? I'll have to wait to see what their adjuster says when he looks at it... Probably repair it considering the otherwise absolutely immaculate condition of the car?

FML! First decent car I have owned in over 10 years and I go hit a second-hand deer within the first year of ownership.

Second-hand meaning that someone else hit the damn deer first, and it ricocheted into my lane where I promptly smoked it while going 30 mph.

Thankfully I was accelerating away from a stop sign and hadn't reached the posted 65 mph speed limit yet.

My girlfriend said "Bummer dude... now go buy a GT with an automatic so I can drive it". No sympathy from her...

Any thought? Are they going to fix it? Or total it?

Personally, I'd be hoping for a total and a V8 replacement. If they do total it, and you're dead-set on keeping it, you can always buy it back and try to fix it on the settlement money.

Probably total it out.. There's your chance for the GT. You from up north? The deer are monsters.

I used to live in the country, and thankfully never hit a deer. Had my share of close calls tho! With my luck I'd hit a squirrel and total my car lol.
My advice? Get a GT with the $.

A girlfriend that can't drive a stick is a girlfriend that can't wreck my car (She isn't a very good driver... she's 39 years old and just got her drivers license 3 years ago)

Re: Hit a deer! Oh Dear!

The adjuster really surprised me, his figures were $3,889, only $250 lower than the body shop estimate. After the deductible he wrote me a check for $3,389. That is enough to replace everything and paint the entire car!

Or... replace everything, blend the paint to match, and have enough left over for a set of 17X9 wheels and tires from American Muscle !

Or... I could buy a roll of duct tape and fix it like Red Green would?

Dunno yet...
