you would need to find side skirts that would bulk out the sides enough to look alright with the new bulked up from...then of course the rear would need the same treatment..and if not done right it'll look ricey.

the blue car doesn't look bad from the front...but i can't see nor can i find a side shot of it so i don't know for sure.

i don't think the side skirts would look as good to be honest with the rounded sides of your car...but i bet if you could get a set of roush side skirts and do a side exhaust it would flush it out nice. since your rear doesn't have cut outs for tips you won't have to worry about the rear. just an idea

coil overs are nice if you can afford them...

a few mods you should get because they're cheap when found in salvage yards..

-Rear sway bar from a 94-04 GT
-Front strut tower brace from a 94-95 GT
-Rear shock tower brace (you can either buy one or make one from an 05+ panhard bar if you find one for really cheap like i did)

Sub frame connectors are a must....Late Model Restoration has great deals on SFCs....

also if you can't afford coil overs like most...you can upgrade your current shocks and struts to something like Tokico HPs (the blues) and then either buy a stiffer lowering spring, or do what i've done on my last two mustangs...cut the factory springs down by 1.25 coils off the front and 1 coil off the back...giving the perfect stance an achieving the goal

at this point you'd want to consider some C&C plates (like from MM), but you won't be low enough to have need of them except to set up your camber for auto x

have you run autocross before? just curious because if you haven't just know that the work you're going to do on your car is going to put you in a class that you may not be prepared to handle. I'd run F stock for a bit to get the hang of auto x first if you're new to it. which requires no modifications (around here a CAI will kick you out of F stock)

CAI = Cold Air Intake....yes a simple mod like that can change you class at certain Auto X events....the fact that you've never run even in F stock (it's a class) leads me to believe that you'd be throwing yourselves to the wolves if you build your car like you want right off the bat. I'd put at least one event under your belt before that. Auto x is all about pushing your car to the limits and right now you haven't fully done that. Just my honest opinion....i'm all about having fun, but being safe while doing so.

oh and something i wanted to add about what you should mod for auto x (or even DD'ing)...your brakes

flushing the system and replacing your fluid with 5.1 is a good start...replacing rubber lines with SS, and upgrading your pads (like to Hawk HPS pads) would do wonders for braking....at least in my car they have.

pretty much it can be lowered and have an exhaust lol...it's a beginner class, but is a challenge still because alot of veterans like running f stock over higher classes....

that depends on the local rules...you'd need to find an event and of course register...usually these events have web sites with rules on them for classes...

no problem...just don't want you jumping into something you really aren't familiar with. Sometimes it's good to start at the bottom and work your way up. However if you are looking for some mods you can do that would still keep you in a low class for auto x...consider the brake upgrades i mentioned....hell for just driving around they are worth the little money it costs to do it.

Re: 1997 bumper to 2004 cobra bumper

even if it did, the body lines are far to different~ but the one thing is the 03/04 have a more rounded look so... it wouldnt be as bad as a 99-04 gt bumper.

Btw, more about classes... Even modifying or changing springs brings you to a higher class. You can only change shocks and a few other random things. Oh, but a good mod for autoX would be to buy some cheap gt wheels of your year and put some good R-compound tires on.

Yes... You should wait on everything... The best mod you can make for autoX is the driver mod, after that it goes tires, shocks, then brake pads.

Re: 1997 bumper to 2004 cobra bumper

i'd at least go ahead and upgrade the fluid, pads, and lines even if it stays as a DD....if you've ever heard of the Dragons Tail between TN and NC...you know it's a good way of testing a car in braking and cornering....just those three little upgrades were a tremendous help in making those 311 corners my play thing from stock (which got spongy about 50 turns into it)
