Re: split port swap on 98

cost depends on location and if you can find a donor engine at a salvage yard or on CL...around here you can usually find all the upper parts you need for around $200...

as for hp gains...expect to have the same as a 3.8/3.9L so nothing crazy

Sooo I'd need to find a 99, take the upper intake manifold and the heads... would I need the pistons too?

I'm doing that swap at the moment.... and let me tell you... it takes a LOT more work than you would think. It's not a simple swap for my 98. Especially since I had the blower, intake, heads, and fuel rail to start with and am now searching for all the missing goodies...

If you do this swap... just find a Supercoupe donor first, and then do the swap... so you know all of the parts are there.

But this m90 swap on stock internals will only give you about the same HP gains as a split port swap... so get forged internals if you do this so you can run higher boost! That's my rant for the day. haha

Re: split port swap on 98

You can run up to 11psi safely on the factory internals, don't be afraid to turn it up some.....

Re: split port swap on 98

wtf you gonna do with a 4.6 4v ?
spend more on accessories, K member, wiring harness, cooling system, transmission, ds, rear end, ECU, Guages/Pats, fuel systems ...

Then you gotta put the **** in ... and hope your sixer suspension supports it well enough ...
So I hope you can do all the work yourself ...

Enjoy that $800 4v swap

To OP

Good Information Thread.

Enjoy reading and researching

I mean I can do all of the work my self, with my dads help of course. But your definitely right on all the extras I'd need to get to support the v8...but truthfully its a project car so my pay checks will get dumped into it haha do you think with the m90 swap and with a few more mods it'll challenge some gts?

Re: split port swap on 98

dude my N/A set up challenges them. Do the m90 with a better IC and cam. Get a 93-94 4th Gen m90 set up, and do some porting even mild done by yourself to the heads and intake, and a good exhaust w/ LT's and O/R if possible ... you'd spank GT ***. Probably play w/ the 4.6 3v or the N/A 4v mach1's and 98 cobra. Not sure on that last sentence but probably a good change idk

Should I swap engines or just the heads, fuel rail and m90?

Re: split port swap on 98

You can get an entire engine for a grand or less usually so its not much hassle, plus the supercoupe is halfway forged lol

Re: split port swap on 98

ive seen the full engine for like 400ish before ...

Basically in the swap you'd either do the whole engine, or swap everything above the block out

Did a little research, the new edge 1999 3.8 split port was rated at 190hp, 40+ then my 1998 single port. I'd get that much of a gain with the swap?
