I'm not sure what the prob is, but what you can do is run a temporary push button start, just splice it in the pos wire to the batt. Put the key in ignition, turn it forward, push the button and it'll turn over

Might be. Ignition in my dads old Deville went out, new one was $200. Had to run a setup like this in his. Worked good, and it's funny cause no one knew how to start it lol

Re: starting problem...

I vote for solenoid. Be under it and have someone start it. when it hangs up hit with nylon mallet or gently with hammer. if it stops, there ya go. Disconnect battery cable from starter. Have someone turn to start position. Small wire to solenoid should (does) get 12 volts. Release from start position. If 12 volt continues, it's ignition switch.

Re: starting problem...

Awesome. A little troubleshooting can save much grief. You can buy starter with solenoid or just replace solenoid. Depends on funds and ability. If it's a car you plan to have a while, starter is cool and most come with nice warranty.
