mustang 3.8 v6 exhaust question

hey i have a 3.8l v6 mustang, 1996. Its got stock exhaust(everything) i want to put in a Flowmaster Original 40 Series Offset Muffler from american muscle. it has a 2.5" inlet and outlet. I was wondering if any of you know what size my piping would be. would this item work?

Thanks.

Re: mustang 3.8 v6 exhaust question

An exhaust shop can weld it in. But I wouldn't waste my time on a single exhaust.

Re: mustang 3.8 v6 exhaust question

If your going to do single you need one with 2.25" inlet/outlet...that being said

its a waste of your time and money.

go duals

If you're mechanically inclined you can do this.
Summit Racing SUM-642022 - Summit Racing® Balance Tube Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com 2.25 H-Pipe
Flowmaster 42443 - Flowmaster 40 Series Mufflers - Overview - SummitRacing.com Flow 40's
Dynomax Performance 45903 - Walker Direct Fit Tailpipes - Overview - SummitRacing.com Driver side tailpipe
Dynomax Performance 45992 - Walker Direct Fit Tailpipes - Overview - SummitRacing.com Passenger side tailpipe
Gibson Performance Exhaust 500409 - Gibson Stainless Steel Slash Tips - Overview - SummitRacing.com turndowns

If you're not, get that stuff and take it to a shop. If you want to do dumped exhaust (no tailpipes) Just get the H-pipe, Mufflers, and turndowns and take that to a shop.

Shop around and get quotes, don't just go to the first one you see. If I recall it shouldn't be anymore than 200-300 for the install with 300 being borderline outrageous.

Re: mustang 3.8 v6 exhaust question

that would end up to be about $500. I was just looking for something that would make it sound a little bit better for under $200, cause i still have to pay my parents back for stuff, so i dont have much money.

Well the beauty of this is that all of those are cheap enough to be bought one at a time, so if you're patient you can wait a few weeks or months and have a pretty nice setup.

Here is the cheapest system I could come up with that would still sound ok and you should be able to do it yourself.
Shopping Cart

Here's what it woud most likely sound like

Here's one with a 'slightly' different setup.

Mike, Kyle, and Wendell...your thoughts?

I think he meant the Muffler was an Axleback muffler, not that he had an axleback on his car. Eco could be a company? 02 extension? Or like you said he's full sheet.

Please do not post things like this. They will not be tolerated. TH

Good idea about the muffler. Never heard of eco tips but I've never bothered with tips. Just run the pipe or whatever the kit comes with. The O2 extension makes sense if he was running a different midpipe but a O2 spacer makes no sense to me... Either way I'm done with v6_roller, I like these forums and I'm bot gonna let some keyboard happy kid get me kicked. Cheers.

You mean you have a catback that was supposed to be put on a vette that was hacked up for your car?

Spacers, do you mean MIL eliminators?

So the 2.5" won't fit? Because on American muscle it says this item fits all mustangs from 1979-2004( excludes 1999-2004 svt cobra)

yes a 2.5" muffler will fit just fine, the factory pipe is only 2.25" so it will slip right up on there and weld up just fine

either do what duke said or get a custom system made, they will be cheaper USUALLY than buying a bunch of things and slamming them together lol

really an iphone? uhh mine was done on an iPhone4, it sounds pretty good man, post up the video please

after motor work

before motor work

so is this a single in double out muffler? you say just one muffler but double tips...

for those that haven't heard of them, eco tips are suppose to make the exhaust note deeper most have like a glasspack material inside them they help some but it's mainly the fact of the huge tip size that makes the difference on them
