Just bought a 2001 Mustang
V6 from a private party and I test drove it and everything seemed sound. I got a really good deal and thought it was just way too good to be true. As I left everything was fine until I got on the freeway and my 4th and 5th gear didn't have the same power in relevance to what the lower gears had plus the ride seemed really bumpy, shaky and jerky. It's not a constant bumpy ride but more or less after the shift or after riding smooth for a mile it would vibrate and bump for 5 seconds than go away. When I would downshift it would give me the same sensation and also I noticed the 1st and 2nd gear shift a bit hard. I haven't taken the car to a mechanic yet but before I did I wanted to get some advice on what the problem could be so I don't get lied to by the mechanic. I don't feel any slipping so I don't think it's the tranny but I am worried it could be the clutch. I haven't checked the fluids and plugs yet because I'm not the most mechanically inclined but are there any known issues that fit the symptoms I'm describing just so I'm prepared? Thank you and would appreciate any help.
