what do I need to stroke my 3.8 to 4.2?

I don't wanna spend the money on the stroker kits(yet) but one of the shops near me has the parts for the 4.2. so I was thinking i could just buy the crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons.(is there anything else i'd need?) would there be any problems if i did try this? and are there any mods that add mainly torque?

Depends on what 4.2 rotating assembly they have (if its anything like the diffrent 427 kits for a 351 that is... Fact is im not sure on the v6 kits but in engine strokers in general...) u may need to bore the cylinders out ull need rings the block may need mechining to notch it out to clear the longer through of the crank in some instances its a good idea to change out rockers and/or rods for piston to valve clearences and all ur spacings need to be adjusted to work with out binding. Just a rough idea on what could be nessarry to doing this mod sucsesfully.

I was thinking about the cam
the store i'm looking at has the crankshafts for $250, pistons for $50 each($300) I'm not sure on which cam shaft to get though the cheapest one is by melling and it says it's the same as stock one that came in the 4.2.

Re: what do I need to stroke my 3.8 to 4.2?

does anyone know if i can?
also i may of found a 4.2 v6 in the back room of my high school auto shop i'm not entirely sure. I'm going to ask him if i can have/buy it from him I saw some numbers on it that were 4.2R and i think i saw a 97. i'm not sure what it means though. i'm hoping it means its 1997 4.2 ford v6. the rest of the code was covered in crap and i didn't want to clean it off to read the rest of it. but i will tomorrow.

Just thinkin bout this man and if ur goin to go threw all the trouble to pull the motor and stroke it out or swap up for the larger v6 y not just put a 5.0 or 4.6 pi in it and swap out ur rear end at the same time its hardly more work then ur all ready thinking about doing yet the possabilities are infanitlly greater with ether one of those engines not to mencion the sex appeal right? Just sayin prolly way more worth it.

Get the 4.2 pistons out of a v6 f-150, along with the heads, fuel rail, and upper/intakes, bigger fuel pump, stroker get, then get it all balanced. But you'd wanna beef your clutch if its manual plus rear end gears..... might as well get a good tune too! Could probably find a donor engine for no more then 500

Re: what do I need to stroke my 3.8 to 4.2?

@Hawk, trust me i would LOVE to put a V8 in it but since its a 1995 why not go with a 351w or even a 351c. i'm only 16(almost 17) and this is actually my 2nd car(1st was 2001 hyundai accent) and I had to fight my mom just to get this and that was with my dads help.

@ KM98Stang, if thats all I need i could just buy the parts new from Oreily auto parts. I've already looked and they have everything i'd need. I've been looking for a donor car/engine I haven't found anything yet.

Im putting a twin screwed 351w in mine but i dout ud fit a 351c in it with out some serious modifacations in which case id drop a crate bbf boss block in but a 351w will fit real nice with out a bunch of pi$$ing around and have plenty of power. U should do that and just not say what ur putting in it lol!

Re: what do I need to stroke my 3.8 to 4.2?

the 351c is still a small block so it should fit or it seems like it. other people have already done 351c swaps. I'm not sure on how emissions work but i think put a bbf in a mustang probably would be a pain to get past emissions. especially in california.

I sort of want to keep the V6 in it though as my daily driver then when i'm older.(hopefully not to much older) i'll just buy a old muscle or pony car around 1966 or older then I don't have to worry about the CA emissions.
or if i ever move out of CA i could get something from 1968 or older. I'd probably settle for something 1975 or older though.

I'm getting the stage 3 heads, lower and upper intakes, and cam (bolt in 85rwhp) then get um bored and stroked, daily driver pushing probably 300hp of course it'll take awhile... but its your choice, V6 or V8 your still a mustang owner

Re: what do I need to stroke my 3.8 to 4.2?

can any one give me an idea of how much more torque and power i'd get for when i do put the 4.2 in?
from what i've read it seems like I just want more torque mostly. apparently theres a old saying that goes something like "torque wins the races but horse power wins the customer" or something like that.

Lol ok if u say so. Fyi size wise as in total size of engine block 351c are practically big blocks and i have yet to see some one bother putting one in an sn95 like urs. A couple foxes and some older 70s - 60s stangs but not an sn95. The windsor is a much smaller block that only really shares the ci displacment number and has alot more preformance parts available for it. if u dont believe me feel free to start a thread and ask ppl hear what the diffrence is between the 2 blocks.
