2000 Cobra rims on a 2002 V6?

Hi All,

I found a set of 2000 cobra rims for sale and want to buy them for my 2002 V6 convertible. I know that all the stock rims from 99-04 are the same, but do cobra rims have the same backspacing?

The seller agreed to $225 for the set. They are in good shape.

Chrome or painted? If they are in good shape that is a pretty good deal, if they are chrome its an even better deal.

The bolt pattern and backspacing is the same, you'll be fine.

Is the $225 just for the wheels or does it include rubber?

Just the wheels. He sent me some pretty high quality pics and everything looks good, no curb rash.

And they are chrome.

Sounds like a winner to me. Not too shabby for chrome cobra's, I just spent twice that on my bullitts.

Re: 2000 Cobra rims on a 2002 V6?

Yeah I love the Bullitts too, I just couldn't find any for the right price. I'm trying to get my car looking good for under a G. So far most of what I've done has been mechanical, brake and suspension work. Now I'm looking to replace most of the plastic body components, get the spoiler repainted and get some fresh rims and tires. At least this will cover one of those haha.

Just make sure they aren't peeling...can be hard to tell in pics, even high quality ones...but it sounds like they are decent...if all is green definitely pick them up. That's a great price for those rims.

Yah that's definitely a good find...when I was looking all the cobra rims were going for way more than bullitts, so you're lucky.

Re: 2000 Cobra rims on a 2002 V6?

the backspacing is different compared to an 8" wide rim but they will fit fine. If its not lowered the front MIGHT stick out a bit past the fender but not bad.

make sure for the 9" wide you run a 275 tire for width.

I can barely tell on that pic, but what size are they, and are they cobra R's because they dont look like 99-01 cobras to me. At least in that pic they dont.

Yes, they're cobra R's. Any "2000" cobra wheels will be Cobra R's since ford technically didn't produce the cobra in the year 2000, except for the cobra R.

Yes - The seller didn't know what he had. They are after market 16" cobra-style rims. Someone had replaced the center caps with cobra center caps.

Thanks And I'm thinking about it. When I got the car it was a real piece, I've had to replace the alternator, ignition coil, plugs, wires, battery, water pump, calipers & rotors... I just put new headlights on and restored the plastic body inserts so with the wheels it's finally looking nice. Now I'm thinking about what mods I wanna do...

Yeah but at least with 16" the tires aren't quite as bad. I got a nice set of continentals with ~5k on them for $200.

How much $ am I looking at for parts to do a solid slam job? I do most of my work myself and have mechanic friends so I'm not worried about labor.

Springs run from 70-300 bucks depending on the brand spring you get

Well actually those 16" look more like the 95 Cobra R wheels...the 2000 Cobra R wheels are a different style.

Maintenance and getting the car running good is more important than mods...good decision to get those things fixed first before buying "look at me" stuff. "look at me" stuff doesn't really matter if your car is stuck in your garage with a dead battery

Well it really depends on how much you lower. If only 1-1.25", you can get away with just lowering springs for ~200 or less.

If you want to drop 1.5" or more than you'll need caster camber (CC) plates ($200), a bumpsteer kit ($140) and possibly new shocks/struts ($200-500+) and ball joints ($100). I'd say if you drop more than 1.5" plan on new shocks/struts and ball joints as the stock stuff will wear out real fast.

Honestly the idea of lowering a car seems intimidating but our mustang's suspension is pretty basic...if you're mechanically inclined and have friends that can help you could probably do the full install yourself without issues...I would recommend getting an alignment afterwards regardless of who installs it...your tires will thank you later
