I was under the impression that they (94-95 pcm's) had to be flashed or chipped or something like that. Ran into a similar issue on a Caprice some time ago.

My 94 was odbII I used my code scanner on it a few times, as for the tuner I don't think it will work with the 94-95 v6. I could be wrong....

Just a heads up on the 95, before tossin cash into it, make sure the head gaskets are new. 95 had a huge recall on the head gaskets due to bad gaskets. Trust me, you don't want that headache. My 95 blew and then led to a burnt out piston.

94-95 were very bad with head gaskets. Problem was fixed on the 96-98 3.8's. I believe it was something like the factory torque specs on the head bolts. My 94 blew one, so a 98 motor was swapped in.

Re: 1995 3.8 will a tuner work?

The person i bought it from had them replaced. maybe not soon but later eventually i'll swap a 1997 4.2L in it. I'll have to use my old 3.8 heads though for awhile(do they even fit) cause it looks like one of thems cracked. and I don't have the rest of the 4.2 Intake yet.

Figure out the cubic inches and I believe the heads won't match. As far as swapping to a 4.2l its a headache. U need the k member and a arms. New transmission and drive shaft. And need an 8.8 rear end. Very costly for the 95.. unfortunetly. I tried that and that's why I'm stickin with the 3.8. If u had a 96 to 98 it would have the k member. 95 is not the choice year.

Re: 1995 3.8 will a tuner work?

I'm planning on swapping alot into but no one else has ever told me i'd need a new transmission. since there both small blocks they should fit. the biggest problem i've seen so far is swapping to split port. Theres a used auto wrecker where i can get the heads for $100 each. the 8.8 rearend I don't think is needed but I want the 8.8 rearend anyways so that's not really a problem. The engine in it currently is the original 3.8 its got over a 150,000. The 4.2L i got i found in the back room of my high schools autoshop got it for free. I plan on buying mostly or hopefully all high performance parts.

Its better to move to the 8.8 for better performance. If its an aode auto tranny, the engine will burn it out in no time. Standards I'm not sure about.
