I depends on the miles and what kinda of condition. Sadly around me you can find a whole bunch of v6 new edges with high miles and fair condition at best. A lot of them are asking between 3-8k for these junk cars.
I have seen a few with 75k or less in excellent condition for about 5-6k, but they don't show up very often.

My favorite is a 96 GT with cobra badges, bald tires, 264,000 miles, faded and flaking paint at a local lot for $5995 and its been sitting there, in the same spot since 2006 when i moved here.

The 02 your buddy has? With those miles and it being a vert, if it is in good condition then his asking price is fair.
