Tuner/ high mileage

Folks, is it still worth it to get a tuner for a high mileage car about 160,000 miles on it? I'm not sure about this.

As long as the car has been well maintained 160k is not too bad, go ahead and pick up the tuner.

So he has a tuner already? He may not feel a difference, especially on a stock setup. Unless its an auto, from what I hear the shift point changes alone make a big difference.

Re: Tuner/ high mileage

I know this is a stupid question, but I'm wondering, what exactly does a car tuner do?

It isnt a stupid question! And it changes your fuel to air ratios and spark advances. Now with the more mods you get the more this tuner will help your ride. If you get gears it will recalbrate your speedo. Overall, it maximizes your ponyes engine!

Go to Americanmuscle.com and look up the sct tuner. There is also a good video that will give you an idea of its capabilities.

The biggest thing about mileage is how the car was treated for those miles. If it was well maintained and not abused then 160k miles is really no different than 60k miles, minus the typical wear and tear that occurs during the life of a car - spark plug changes, flushes and filters etc.

The 05+ cars really respond well to bolt ons and tunes. I'd say even if his car was bone stock and an auto it'd be worth the $379 for the tuner. Any mods are going to net even more gains.

Re: Tuner/ high mileage

I got my car tuned at about 225,000 miles. Certain items need to be taken care of prior to that. A full tune up including ALL of the fluids. Gear box, differential, engine, coolant, power steering, ect. New plugs, pcv, fuel filter, air filter, treat the fuel system (Seafoam induction cleaning).
Recommended before dyno tune: At least- CAI, underdrive pulleys, catback or dual exhaust.
Show up for the dyno tune with 93 octane in gas tank.
-These are what I did and had huge success.Just a suggestion-
