Engine shaking at idle and driving

Hello all,

New member here and looking forward to being a member of this community.

I am having an issue with my 2000 mustang v6 3.8. I have just did some work on my car to alleviate some issues I have had with this car of mine. I have noticed a bad shaking while driving and while in park. Plugs, wires, and coil pak are about a year old. Just replaced Tranny mounts, and fuel filter this week. I took it to ford to get a 100 point inspection and they found no codes being thrown, and made no mention of anything pertaining to the motor besides a small leak from valve cover.

I was thinking about pulling and cleaning the mass airflow sensor, but I was wanting some other opinions about any other possibilities that may be causing my problem.

I appreciate all the help I can get, and looking forward to being a member of this forum.

Check your mass air sensor. Mine shakes like I have cams if I forget to plug it in after working on it.

+11. Do you have a tune in the your car?.. If so is the OBD turned off?.. If so it won't throw any codes and you could have something going wrong!..

Do you think it is possible that this problem can be. caused by catylitic converter starting to become clogged. The engine itself does not appear to be physically shaking, but inside the car you can notice a strong vibration. Yesterday I purchased a new air filter and mass air flow sensor cleaner, but haven't had the opportunity to install and clean. any opinions would be very much appreciated

Have you checked your motor mounts

When I sent it to ford and described the issue they said they would do a 100 point inspection and considering the symptoms I believe that they would have checked, but can't say for certain

I took it back to ford and now they are saying I should replace the motor mounts also, but still a little sketchy about it. we will found out today.

Yup that's what it sounded like to me .. might just want to upgrade them anyway

could be an engine miss as well, if the MAF cleaning doesnt help check your plugs and plug wires and replace as needed.

I was thinking a miss too, but it hasnt thrown a code. It did before for a miss but it don't anymore. I changed plugs, wire, and coil but still showed a miss, but the it went away according to the diagnostic. Don't make sense, has me wondering if I have a short somewhere like the injection tor wires. Just shooting in the wind it seems

I have an update, and I am praying that someone could help me because it seems the only thing that Ford dealership knows how to diagnose is how to open my wallet.

Just got my car back from the dealership after getting my motor mounts replaced and I start the car and the shaking seems worse than ever. They told me to bring it back tomorrow, and they will look into it.

I have had them replace the tranny mounts, and motor mounts.I am 500 in so far, and its getting no better.

Here is the situation. When I turn the pony on car revs up to nearly 1200 rpm. Car begins to shake violently. Steering wheel shakes bad, I can see the hood shaking, and my ass feels likes its on a dryer. Once the rpms go down, it smooths out. Once I begin to drive in town same thing, same shake.When I speed up it seems to not be as bad. It seems to be the worse at 1200-1800 rpm.

When I took it to ford there were no codes that were thrown, but I am begining to wonder if my computer works ok, because I have not seem a check engine light in the 5 years I have owned it even when it was diagnosed for a miss, or when my fuel pump was going out. I dont know what to think.

Could that be a really bad thing? How do you tell when theres a problem surveys harmonic balancer? Bc I've notice on really cold days my harmonic balancer squeaks

The biggest, most noticeable symptom will be wobbling. You can see wobble with the motor idling. Car will shake - wobble etc.. basically its throwing of your timing when there bad

I anted to give everyone an update to help anyone that may have the same issues. After almost $800 of frustration I finally found the issue, the harmonic balanced was some for. Now that I have replaced this part, the car runs better than ever.

I also wanted to say that I Got on Fords ass for making me spend all that money when it came down to a $120 part, and at least got my original diagnosis money back. don't hurt to complain sometimes.
