Convert v6 to v8

Hi guys
My name is Meir, and I'm from Israel.
I'm a big fan of Mustang, and own a 65 Fastback.
I have a question and I would like to hear your opinion:
The some cheap SN95 (1996) with v6, and I was thinking for a project, to convert it to v8, with manual.
Is it worth it and did someone have experience?
I also have 289 that I thought to restore. Is it possible to use it for SN95?
tLooking forward for your answers, thank
Meir

Re: Convert v6 to v8

Welcome to the site...great to see some mustang fans from across the pond.

You could definitely put a v8 into your v6. The easiest engine swap would be a 94-95 5.0 or a 96-98 4.6L 2v and drop it into your v6. You will need the ECU, harness, wiring, and the radiator. It'd be easier if you had the transmission that came with the new engine. You'll also want an 8.8" rearend and v8 driveshaft.

The easiest way to do this swap would be to get a donor car, complete with everything you'd need. There are misc. differences in the suspension and engine bay that can be easily changed if you have a complete donor car.

The 289 could work in your SN95, but will take more effort to make it work.

Re: Convert v6 to v8

I think you could also convert it to use a carburetor instead of fuel injection. then you won't need the computers switched? I'm not to sure though cause I think the computer also controls the transmission... but then if its a 5-speed.

Good question...but these days I'd say all the manual transmissions have sensors/readouts that report back to the ECU so maybe you'd still need that ECU...

Thank you all.
I think it will cost lots of money the convertion.
Problem is, there are no SN95 GT in Israel at all. Bringing Donner car will raise prices dramatically.
Any way, thanks for your replay.

Re: Convert v6 to v8

You could still try just a V6 project its still costs a lot but just imagine the look on someones face when you say its a V6(of coarse after you beat them in a race, some people won't race against you just cause its a V6...which is dumb)
