99er

Just bought my first mustang. Always loved em though, just never had the money, or couldn't justify it practically. So I got my buddy's 99 3.8 that's electric blue that he threw a matching cobra r spoiler on. It looks good. Problem is, my minivan will beat it, off the line and over a mile strip. I know they make all kinda **** to make these things faster, where should I start from your experience? CIO, headers, what else can I do so I feel more like a man driving this thing! How much work would a turbo kit be? Idk, ya feel me though.

Haha, the grocery getter is no joke. And the exhaust manifold is leaking on the stang. So a little bit of both I suppose.

Re: 99er

I think they allow you to program the amount of air and fuel entering the combustion chamber at the highest level of efficiency. When you add cold air intakes, turbos, exhaust upgrades etcetera, It changes that ratio and minimizes the efficiency. That's why they need to be reprogrammed after upgrading stuff.

Feel free to correct me or add to this. I've never used one yet, just been doing some reading.

You pretty much got it

Welcome to the site...nice looking stang...I believe your stang's color is atlantic blue, they made ~9000 v6/GT's in AB in 99.

Yah a CAI and Exhaust are great starter mods...however if you are serious about a turbo I'd hold off on both..depending on the turbo application you might need to run custom exhaust and intakes.

Re: 99er

So prolly 2000 of them got wrapped around trees, 1000 of em weren't taken care of and are rotting in a yard, and 6000 are still cruising the streets? That's a pretty cool thing to know about ones car. Thanks. And I'm not sure what I'm doing as far as forced air yet. Money, money, money. Can I get it running with the gt's without a turbo? Probably. Is that gonna be enough to make me happy with it? Probably not. Will I regret my decisions in the future? I'm sure of it, lol. I guess all you can do is read up, know your stuff, then make the best decision possible.

I'm loving this forum app for the iPhone, btw

And your sonic looks identical to my Atlantic. Agreed?

Lmao, you pretty much got her figured out...anytime you start sinking money into a car it's never a good idea, but it's what we do. You could definitely build an N/A v6 car to run with GT's, but you may very well spend more time and money than it's worth..it may have been easier to sell the current v6 and buy a v8...it all depends on your goals and what you want to do.

Sonic Blue is a darker shade of blue than Atlantic, and it has elements of purple, but at certain angles and in different lighting situations it does look like Atlantic Blue. I've seen pics of SB cars that looked like AB but then at another angle you can tell it's SB. It's crazy like that.

AB and BAB :99-00
SB: 02-04 then in 05 for the S197

Re: 99er

I'm guessing his car is really K7 Bright Atlantic Blue... Atlantic blue is a dark navy blue, he said it was electric blue? Check the color code inside the drivers door, I'm betting it's K7...

You are probably right...now that I look at some quick google pics the BAB is closer to his color...initially looking at his profile pic it looked AB, damn lighting lol...

If that's the case your car is from a much lesser production number.

1,048 BAB v6/GT's were made in 99.

9,639 AB v6/GT's were made in 99.

Timeline: 1999 Mustang - The Mustang Source

Re: 99er

Look inside the driver door, there should be a decal that lists the exterior color, etc...
If it says K7, it's bright atlantic blue (like my 99).

Re: 99er

you can stroke it to 4.2,4.3 or 4.4(4.2 is the easiest) and should be able to bore it out by another .1? i think? you can get a wind star intake. the new edge GTs had 260hp and 302 lb.-ft. You can get a cam shaft(which also makes it sound BAD @$$). you can get a posi,T-lok (whatever its called I think there the same???) and the 8.8 rear-end from a GT to handle the added power. I think it is possible to get the 3.8 past 300hp without turbos or super chargers? so you could be beating stock and slightly modified GT's. your probably going to need a turbo or super charger ( I think super chargers look more muscle car-ish) if your going to want to beat stock cobras though.

It hooks up to the cars computer system and unleashes power the stock factory tube doesn't via different shifts at different rpms for example
