Car Dragging

for some reason my car is dragging butt from about 1-2500 rpm range and if im just crusing and decide to stomp it i put it on the floor and it drags till like 3 and then shifts early. once it gets up it fine but it takes it along time to get up and going. any suggestions of the problem?
