Thoughts on short throw shifters?

Re they for comfort or can they reduce like 0-60 times? Are they worth the 180$?

Re: Thoughts on short throw shifters?

I'm halfway through putting mine on. AM forgot two bolts that bolt the shifter to the transmission and of course no one around here has them. I'll let i know how it goes when i get mine done in a week or so.

I have a B&M short throw shifter i got from my local Jegs!!! Im loving the shorter distance through gears, but however u might want to look into a new clutch n flywheel, if u use stock clutch like i am, u will have higher rpms when shifting, closer gears are much better for a short throw. here is what mine looks like

Pretty nice. In honesty is it worth the 200-300$? Or would you probably say out that into something else like a tuner or w/e?

I got the 69.99 from american muscle, and I can honestly say its a drastic change, super easy to install, and worth every penny.

The cheap AM shifter was great on my old mustang. Little sticky into reverse but really it was pretty good. The steeda I've got now is better but its not an enormous difference. Easy to install too.

Go with a name brand. Pro 5.0, Steeda, Hurst, B&M, MGW. They are worth the money. When you get it you will be thinking why the hell did I question this and why the hell didn't I do this sooner. Shifters are a part that you will get what you pay for.

In saying this .. the synchronizers is what makes any shifter stick.. if there not up graded than there is a possibility any will stick at some point

---------- Post added at 10:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 AM ----------

It was a real question bub I don't wanna pay 200 on a short shifter when its no different than a 45 dollar one I realize most is just buying the name

It's like anything else, you get what you pay for. If the $45 one was as good as a brand name, the brand names would go out of business.

Not so much with shifters... there not all the same. Get the am shifter if u want to save a little money, get a steeda if you want a great shifter, or an mgw if u want a very racer feel. Do not buy a cheap ebay shifter...

I've used Pro 5.0 and Hurst. Both were fantastic! The Pro 5.0 was the better of the two if I had to choose.

So you wouldn't recommend a AM shifter? Let's put into fact that I won't be in this car but for 3-4 more years. When I graduate college I'll be upgrading to a 2014 anniversary mustang.

I've had a Hurst, a Roush and a Tri-Ax (all on Gts)and they were all major improvements over stock..

Re: Thoughts on short throw shifters?

I havent had any problems out of my $70 AM brand, It's my daily driver. I dont have the most powerful mustang so I couldnt tell you about power affecting it, But from time to time Ill give it all its got and still no problem. You do get what you pay for. Ive never used the more expensive ones but I can tell you The one I have is great. I honestly dont see how it could be any better or worse. I recommend.
