Well I'd say as far as bang for your buck, gears ftw.
The cam will produce some hp gains and depending on the profile give you some nasty lopey sounds, but a cam alone won't net you the same gains as doing h/c/i.
Install will really determine which is cheaper.
Figure at least 300 for a cam, 200 for new springs, plus misc. stuff. Install would probably be expensive as it is somewhat labor intensive. But if you can do it yourself you will save bucko bucks.
Gears are 150-200, figure in a rebuild kit and gear oil for another 100, but install is highly recommended for these so I always say 300-500.
Just wondering, did you buy the car with the tlok, or did you have the tlok installed?
