Only issue I've herd is issues with certain tunes, which is hearsay and has zero to do with the hand held.

I had a COBB tuner for my STi and it just stopped working and their customer service was terrible. As for my SCT, I have had zero problems with it.

Agreed that's the person who made the tunes fault, not the product itself. Bama tunes seem to be great with no issues that I've heard of. I get my tunes from mike at punch it performance and have nothing but good things to say about his tunes.

No cons.... It's easy enough for MEnto use
And I love that I can read and clear codes! It is a hella well designed unit.

Do you really think that bama tuning gives you all the power you can have on the tuner? Don't you think there's a barrier with "legal power"?

---------- Post added at 09:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ----------

The SCT tuner is great. I've just recently wondered is the tunning made to be street Legal or could they make your car a real bad machine? Like subtracting seconds of 1/4 mile.

---------- Post added at 09:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:39 PM ----------

Does the law make a limit to how much tuning goes into these tuners. I'm trying to explain my question the best way I can.

---------- Post added at 09:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 PM ----------

I say SCT but I also mean all tuners. I say SCT because to me SCT is the best.

Re: Cons of SCT TUNER!!

I don't think that any tuner would give you more power than the engine could handle for 10's of thousands of miles. To answer your question, no I don't think they are. But at the same time, like I said they want these tunes to be effective and something that isn't going to cause excessive wear. Too powerful of a tune will quickly compromise the integrity of the motor and many other moving parts. Then all of a sudden, said tuning company is now unreliable because they make tunes that blow your motor.

Look at the #8 cylinder problem for an example. quite possibly a instance of a "tune too powerful" I say keep the great tunes coming from the tuners that we all know, love, and currently use. No need for more power.

Just my view on your question anyways........

Answers my question completely. I thought maybe it was governed by our law enforcement idk. I believe that the government doesn't like performance and that they had they're grasp on these tuner businesses.

Re: Cons of SCT TUNER!!

Highly unlikely that the government has any control on the limitations of tuning. I will say that if it was up to the government that EVERYONE would be driving 3 bangers with 2 stage atkinson cycle hybrid motors (I don't even know if that's accurate lol)

I can tell you that if they tune it too much power your engine will start knocking so its better to be on the safe side with mail tunes. No one control tunes its more of judgements and also remember the best tune is seeing the number on a dyno. But no real power gain can be made without doing engine mods
