Cats failing?

Ey guys I live in California do I have to get the stand snagged every year and I was wondering if it might be a bad o2 sensor? At start up I can smell gas do I know it's running rich. I have already cleaned out the maf so it shouldn't be that. I was wondering if a bad o2 sensor would shoot codes saying the cat is bad?

83000 miles

I'm pretty sure it's running a little rich and I want to fix that too. I would think o2 sensors would fix that wouldn't it?

Yeah I'd probably replace all for of em. Check out rockauto.com. They've got prices way lower than auto part stores.

Re: Cats failing?

if you had a bad O2 sensor it would throw a check engine light. if you smell gas you might have an exhaust leak. The stock exhaust manifolds tend to crack on the V6. it could also be a broken cat. I think you should take it to a muffler shop and have them inspect your exhaust system. most muffler shop do this for free.

Re: Cats failing?

or you could take the cats off and get the CEL elimintators... I'm still in the process of finding more info on the CEL elimintators though.

At start up, its normal for a rich exhaust fuel odor, it subsides after O2 heat up. Can't recall but its more predominant with pre 2004 Stangs.

I have a cel on right now and it said right bank fail. I'm might try and replace the sensors and see what happens cause I'm not getting great gas mileage either. I would think the o2 sensor would fix if my car is running rich
