Tuner

Is a tuner off AM worth it if i only have a CAI and true duals? Just looking for a little more kick when i go to take on my rival ricer buddy. Whats the normal install time for gears and a tlock? Maybe i can do that instead if its more worth it..

Tuner helps. I hear it's helps ALOT on auto's. You can tell the difference they say tho on manuals too tho. Gears are for mechanics bro, I hear extremely hard and not suggests to do yourself. I would get the tlock installed while a shop is doin the gears. Just me tho

Like instead of getting 2 hp from CAI you will get like 20-30 with the tuner and CAI. Tuner gives 11-14 rwhp alone.

Re: Tuner

A dyno tune would be slightly better. I got my first set of tunes with a CAI, catback, and underdrive pulleys. Gained 20HP and the 87oct and the 93oct both had great characteristics. I use them both 50/50 probably.

As did I and haven't looked back. Had mike at punch it performance write a tune for my cai, and catless true duals on my 5-speed and am very happy with the results.

Not only does she have some new found pep, but on my trip to myrtle beach last week I nabbed 374 miles on a tank of gas cruising at 80.

The 93 Race tune is the same way.. 91-93 but tune set for race or track
I havent loaded the Race tune yet only Performance...thats why I asked if those mpg were based off the 93Race

91 Performance is setup for 3k and up. You still have your low end power but once you hit 3k its on. 93 Race is from idle up. I think if it stays dry tomorrow I'm gonna load 93R while me and a buddy do some vids and pics.

Are gears worth it? Do they really dramatically change our v6s?

Re: Tuner

Gears should be #1 or #2 most important upgrade, especially for the V6. They get you moving at a higher speed a hell of alot faster. A must have.

Re: Tuner

You can get your own specific paramiters from BAMA, I would think (If you got it from AM, that is.). They should answer any questions you have and e-mail you the timing, air/fuel ratio, transmission settings, ect.. for each tune.
I have dyno tunes. The biggest thing I notice is that the 87ost tune is alot more "lopey sounding" which is due to timing advance.

If I were to get cams would they have a tune available for it?

So what would you do? Just go get a dyno tune? For the cams?

---------- Post added at 08:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 AM ----------

I have an off topic question. In an automatic v6 with a cam, wouldnt you need a stall converter and what gears? In the 8.8 spline what would you get 4.10s or 3.73s? Very good question.

The mail order tunes are great with basic bolt on's but once you start doing things like heads ,cams, etc. it's way better to go get a dyno tune so all you're tuning parameters are exactly dialed in.
