cammin the stang

Will camming the 3.8 give me that nice inconsistent idle. I've heard many v6 stangs that are cammed and have that low, old school idle sound.
If so, how much would it cost to get that sound?
Sorry for the retardedness, i don't know too much in depth stuff about the engine.

If you're gonna get a cam go ahead and do heads and intakes while you're at it...unless you just want the sound.

Re: cammin the stang

That tough sounding "loopy idle", is the result of the cam timing transfering your low-end power to the mid & upper RPM range.
Your car will feel less powerful until you get the revs up.
As stated above, you will also need lower rearend gears.

Re: cammin the stang

an even fire engine wont really sound like an odd fire engine with a cam~ if you have listened to some clips then you know what they will sound like. Doing a cam without heads/intakes is not a smart idea as you are already in the motor.

Re: cammin the stang

Trust me, there is nothing "nice" about an inconsistent idle. It gets old after the first minute or two.

I have had my lopey idle for over a year now and I still love starting my car and hearing it settle into that beautiful noise.

Kiljosh, what cam do you have in your stang.
And yes, i will probably do heads and intakes since the engine will be open.

Re: cammin the stang

I believe you can get a stock spec cam and have it ground with a wider duration. This will get you a lump and save having to do head and the like, IMO.
