I know the size is 16. I'm looking at buying rims and I need the width. Can anyone tell by looking at this picture? (Sorry it's upside down.)
Numbers are 225/55R16

Re: Finding tire width for new rims...

the stock 16s are 7.5in wide I belive, you dont have to buy the same width, you can go with 8 or 9 wide, if 8 245 wide or 255 wide if 9 at least 275mm wide.

17/255/45 or 17/275/40

How could I buy different widths? Then they'd be wider than the tires am I right?

Re: Finding tire width for new rims...

i believe those are 7.5 inches stock, i know my 15s on my 01 were.... a 225 on a 7.5 fits good.

you could get some very cheap 17s just something to look at, ford 17s are cheap

Re: Finding tire width for new rims...

there about an 8 wide would work but the tire would be to narrow for me~ i would stick with a 7 or 7.5" and I personally would choose 7.5

Re: Finding tire width for new rims...

Yah I think a 225 would be too narrow on a 17x8" rim The best fit for 225/55/16 is the stock 16" v6 rims, 16x7.75".

I think a 235 would fit a 17x8 but it would also be narrow and offer no curb protection whatsoever...I'd look into a 245 min or wider for 17x8 and 17x9's.

I have 245's on my 17x9's and the tire sidewall sits flush with the rim. So I'll be getting a 275 next time around to offer some protection.

I'd imagine a 245 would be perfect for a 17x8.
