Are temperature guages accurate

Are the temperature gauges in the 99-04 models accurate? I live 10 minutes away from work, yeah today I was driving my mustang really hard and when I got home to feel my motor it was so hot you couldnt even touch it it was that hot. Compared to normal driving. I was just flooring it. Is this normal? And plus what are some ways I can keep my under the hood temperature cooler?

A cowl hood would let cool air in at stand still and slow speeds but suck the hot air out at hight speeds. Getting a lower temp thermostat would help with the coolant temperature. Also flushing your cooling system to clear out and deposit, those can cuz hot motor temps. Also getting your exhaust ceramic coated cuts down on a lot of heat.
