Just ordered an SCT

Finally got my sh*t together and put an order in for an SCT X3 with the custom tunes. Can't wait!

It's going to take a couple days for the Bama guys to write the tunes and get the order out...gonna be a LONG couple days

Any comments/feedback is welcome regarding the different tunes - street, perf., race and octanes as well as the other features of the tuner.

What are your tunes? Mine is 93 street, 93 performance, 93 race. You'll love it. I like mine. It's the difference in the shifts you will feel.

---------- Post added at 07:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:25 PM ----------

After watching the twin turbo v6 I seen on u tube I wanna turbo my v6. And or later on buy me a 2013 v6 bc a v6 is all I can afford right now.

---------- Post added at 07:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:26 PM ----------

And a tuner opens up many opportunities.

Re: Just ordered an SCT

i just got mine a couple weeks ago, and you are gonna love it!
For now I got 87 street, 91 performance and 93 race. But will probably order some others and keep on computer to play around with. The shift points is the main thing you will notice, but I also think my car sounds ballsier. For the most part I have stayed with the 93 race tune.

using the performance the last couple days, and really like that one too, not as fast off the line, but maybe better once you get going

most just go with the highest performance tune and leave it lol unless they have an 89 tune so they can run cheaper gas~

Re: Just ordered an SCT

Haha nice...

Thanks for the feedback guys...I went with the 87 street, 87 performance and 91 race for now. 91 is the highest in ~30 miles so I'll get a 93 tune later on.

Yah I'll try out the 87's and then the 91, I'm sure I'll leave it on 91
The improved shift points are really what I'm looking forward to.

It shipped out yesterday...should be here mon/tues

Yah I'll probably leave it on the race tune...actually scratch that, I'm sure I'll leave it on the race tune..I've been burning up the rest of the 87 since tuesday so I'll be able to put 91 in right away, if that tells you anything

haha..well I got home from work and the box was sitting on my porch

Unwrapped that s.o.b. and it took literally 5 min to upload the tune, awesome.

So far I've tried the 87 street/performance tunes..race will come when I empty the tank more.

Overall I'm satisfied with the improvements just from the 87 tunes.

Spun them off the line and broke the tires (or should I say tire ) loose in 2nd...definitely feels stronger throughout the powerband and the idle is throatier, maybe due to the higher a/f ratio.

Transmission shift adjustments are the best part...love it when she slams into the next gear, and the downshift is ballin too

Can't wait to get that 91 race tune in

Those rims look *****in on your car btw

Yep, next bonus will be the drop. Want to do it right, don't want to be cheap about it, also maybe add subframe connectors at same time...
Going to clean up and sell the old wheels/tires on CL and use that money for the dual exhaust, got a cool Mustang owner shop guy up the street who is very reasonable and loves working on Mustangs...

Sounds like a plan...wish I had a shop/mechanic like that...everyone is "GM" up here so no mustang specific shops. You're lucky to find an actual honest and knowleadgable mechanic around here...no ones works on anything 1985 and newer lol.

Yah I don't know if the tuner's worth it for stock/near stock manuals...some guys say the a/f, spark advance etc. parameters on the race tune are worth it, others don't.

The tuners always good for future mods, checking codes, gear/tire size changes etc.

That's why I'm afraid of.. 400$ is a lot to spend if it's not worth it

Re: Just ordered an SCT

I have a manual... my tuner gained me 4mpg both in the city and on the highway. That alone was worth the $400. Add to that the ability to read check engine codes, adjust speedometer for changes to gear ratios or tire sizes, and most importantly the increased acceleration in ANY form whether you are using Street, Performance or Race tunes.....

It was well worth the cost... plus with a Bama tune you can modify your car (almost) to infinity and they will tune for it... forever... for free. Hard to beat a deal like THAT!

Oh its worth it! I bought two! One for my 03 3.8 5-speed, and another for my 98 5.0L explorer. So that's around 800 bucks and I don't regret a single penny. In fact I will buy one for every vehicle I own from now on. We getting my wife a 2012 ford focus and I'm getting one for that if they make one!

Yeah I'm definitely gonna invest in one. I have my eye on the tuner that goes on your iPad/iPhone! That is sick money! that just makes it even more convenient. Plus that unlimited free tunes for life, like just_john said is worth a hundred times that. I think it would be a very valuable item even if your car is stock. You can always do and EGR and PCV delete tune when you get it and then plug those off. I bet it would help a little.

I hear some people say yes it's worth it and then some say for manuals it's not worth it. I mainly want it for the gains not so much for code reader and stuff. That's nice to have but not really what I'm buying it for. I'm confused

What would deleting the pcv system do? Maybe my understanding of the pcv system is not accurate.

Well as far as I know the PCV(positive crank ventilation) valve takes air(sometime oil laden) from your crankcase and runs it thru your intake. Supersixmotorsports even talks about doing a PCV delete because sometimes there will be a little oil that can be sucked up thru there, I guessing why you have you replace em cuz they get gunked up. All ya need to do(for 99-04 v6's) is plug off your intake side(it's right before your throttle body) and cap the one that runs right into the top of the intake from the driverside valve cover. Then go pick up some valve cover breathers from autozone for $10 and plug em right into those PCV holes in the valve covers. Really it's just part of emissions and idk about you but if there is a chance of ANY oil gettin up thru there I don't even want it on.

Well do keep in mind that if you do gears and a tlok or FI or any major building that requires re-tuning for a/f, spark etc., you'll need a tuner. I shouldn't say "need", you could get a dyno tune, but they are expensive and you pay for each tune, compared to free tunes for life and the convenience of doing it in your driveway. I'd imagine Bama is decent with tunes for FI and engine builds. So in that case it'd be worthwhile to spend the $379.99 for the tuner and take advantage of the gains you get immediately.

As you see a couple manual guys chimed in and said the mpg gains and performance gains were noticeable, so don't rule it out completely.

Yeah, I took a peek at that thing too. Looks like a handy little contraption. I'm not 100% positive I could justify spending the money on it just yet but maybe down the road.
