Air bag suspension.

I am wanting to lower my mustang the only problem is I want to be able to not worry about scraping when pulling in and out of places in town. I want to put air bags on it so I can raise it up when I need to so I don't hit anywhere. I also want good handleing (better than stock) in the corners. Does anyone have any insight or experiance on this? I would set the caster/camber to be right when it is lowered because that would be where I would be driving it at speed. When it was raised I would just be avoiding scraping on drives and such. Thanks!

Re: Air bag suspension.

Have you thought about a good set of adjustable coilovers yet? Sure it's not as easy as flipping a switch to lift the car but it would definitely be better if you were looking to get a nice handling upgrade out of this.

Re: Air bag suspension.

generally handling and air bags don't mix... but their are kits out there that are geared toward handling improvements~ that may be a route you wish to look into. Air bags are nice for a low stance that you can raise up~ but generally you can get a nice looking stance with springs that is not to low ~

Re: Air bag suspension.

I would say 1.5" would be the max I would go down, and I live in a pretty hilly area.

Re: Air bag suspension.

Yeah 1.5" was what I was thinking about doing but I am installing a 03-04 cobra bumper so that is gona cut my clearance down to. Which is why I wanted to go with airbags. I don't wanna lose handleing so I may just stick with the new springs.

Re: Air bag suspension.

I have heard that airbags work good, but I personnally am not a fan of the concept and wouldn't do it to my car. I'm not saying their bad, but their not for me.

Re: Air bag suspension.

If you really want the bags just for driveways and things like that then getting them isnt worth it. You would be better off with a set of coilovers or a good set of springs/shocks. I had an air bag setup on my car and it was great but I was into minitruckin' and stuff like that so I was into the whole air bit. Handling was better then stock when you were at the right levels but unless you go with a setup from like air ride technologies your basic kit is not going to give you corner carving handling. There are a lot of hassles involved too but if you want a reliable setup that you wont have to deal with a lot then do what I mentioned above with coilovers or a good spring/shock setup with all the goodies. If you have any other questions about it pm me.

Re: Air bag suspension.

Yeah, I think I am gonna scrap the idea. I want good handling and it looks like airbags won't give it to me. I will prolly just drop my car and take it easy. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Air bag suspension.

It can give you good handling but you will pay for it since the kit becomes more complex. Good luck with what you do.
