Turbo kits?

So I was thinkin about skipping all the little bolt ons for now and start runnin some boost this summer. I figure I'll only run a few pounds on stock internals for a few months then overhaul my engine and build up the internals to run more. My question to you guys is were can I get a good cheap kit. I don't wanna spend to much, I was even thinking of making my own kit, but I have no idea how I'd fab up manifolds and stuff, any suggestions?

Re: Turbo kits?

expect 3-5k + invested in doing the kit right. It all depends on how much fab work you do on your own vs having it done. If you have the entire thing fabed up and done it could cost more.

You can buy used TMA turbo kits that were produced for the 3.8 for around 3k or so if you are lucky. That probably wont include fuel, maf, or injector upgrades required. It becomes a money pit VERY VERY VERY VERY fast.

Also expect 300-330rwhp MAX without building the motor, and without a tune the motor may not last. Before doing this inspect your motor fully to ensure it can take it and is in good shape (compression test etc)

300 without building would be great, but how many pounds of boost require injectors or fuel delivery? I'm hoping to do the turbo over summer, then save up for forged internals n some other stuff on a rebuild

Re: Turbo kits?

Your probaly going to need biggger fuel injectors if you want to run a impactful amount. You can probaly run around 10 lbs without building, maybe 12. But if you dont have a tuner you'll need that on top of everything else, also the guages, etc. Make sure you have the money for everything before you start.

Re: Turbo kits?

a friend with a 01 I believe~ or so cant remember 3.8L had 10-11psi and had 330rwhp on a single turbo. As far as what turbo what setup etc I dont know, but I dont see the injectors, fuel pump, or maf handling that level~ it will be about like running 11psi on a Procharger I would guess~

I herd a good method was to put a air fuel ratio meter and when you floor it if it goes over a 12:1 air fuel ratio, about 2 LEDs, than adjust either more or less fuel delivery. But normal droning will be ok right? Cause it doesn't make boost unless I'm wide open, right?

Does anyone on here have a turboed ride?

No, but i helped my friend turbo his focus. Its somethihng like 12:1 normal idle, and then up to at least 15:1 when you floor it. I can ask him the specifics if u'd like?
