Gt Exhaust Tips

Hat are the exhaust tips on a gt?
Are they actual tips or just pipes coming out?

Re: Gt Exhaust Tips

I believe they are 3" tips. They are actual tips but they're welded to the piping. So you'd have to cut them off and re-weld them to whatever piping you have.

If you have a v6 bumper and are going to put tips under it go no bigger than 3".

If you have the GT bumper with the cutouts don't go any smaller than 3"-3.5".

3.5"-4" fill out the cutouts nicely.

Re: Gt Exhaust Tips

Nice, imo the tips look way better with the cutouts. What exhaust are you looking at?

Looking at them making an X or a H out of my Y and doing flow 40s. Looking for a cheap and simple exhaust set up but with quality sound and flow 40s seem to be one of the best of 6ers

Re: Gt Exhaust Tips

Yah they do sound pretty good on the 3.8's. Not a huge a fan of how they sound above 3k but there's not much out there that does sound good, just the way it is.

To save some money I'd do as you're thinking and cut out the y-pipe, but instead of fabbing or buying a midpipe, just have 2 separate pipes welded up to the cats...basically divorced pipes, or divorced duals. Better flow and won't quiet the exhaust down like the y-pipe does.

So technically have straight pipes all the way back? No mid?

Re: Gt Exhaust Tips

Well I usually suggest that if you still have cats and still have mufflers...just a cheaper alternative to a midpipe on a v6. I wouldn't run straight pipes all the way back, that'd sound bad.

Basically the divorced piping I'm suggesting would go from the cats to the dual piping that leads to the mufflers. So the divorced pieces would have to be welded in.

But if you want to get rid of cats, I'd get a midpipe, either x or h...just straight pipes will sound bad, like pissed off tractor

Y not fab an H from the Y?

---------- Post added at 07:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:50 PM ----------

So can I have them cut behind the cats fab a h pipe and then run my exhaust back from there? I hear the h makes it way deeper

Re: Gt Exhaust Tips

Yah you could..it probably wouldn't be that much more expensive to fab an h-pipe compared to divorced piping.

Yah the h-pipe makes the tone deeper, but you really don't notice a huge difference until you add longtubes. They really add the deepness.

Wow, never seen that before...didn't know that's what you meant lol.

I guess that works, If it were me I'd want that damn y-pipe gone, but leaving it probably makes for less new piping and fabbing needed.

Sadly a full true exhaust system with long tubes and all the little things will be one of my later mods. Looking at a t-lok, 4.10 gear, and S/c.
After I finish my exterior/interior.
I'll post pics of my paint job and parts after its all done in a few weeks

Yah definitely a first...I'm sure if more people saw it they would do it too. How's the sound with the y-pipe and the extra pipe flowing gases?
