I just loaded the 93 race run and it seems to be idling high now, about 1k - 1.5k rpms instead of under 1k rpms. Is this normal or a glitch in the tune?

This may sound crazy but I hit 110 mph in third gear at 5500 Rpms in street tune today. God strike me if I'm lying...

---------- Post added at 09:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:39 PM ----------

Start my car up in street tune it'll idle like a grumble... But you can tell when I'm in race tune when I start it up

I use 93 octane but I found some 94 octane would that make a difference?

they are all better than not having the tuner, performance tune seems better after 3000-3500 rpms actually than the race tune, race is quicker as expected, so that ends up being more fun around town, street tune is mildest of them all, but like i said, still better than stock was...
if we had gts the race tune might be more dangerous than it is, but with just a 6 it can only be so much trouble!

Not really the number just mean the resists to knocking and the higher the most timing it can take. But there is a max point of HP gain without power adder

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

Tell me if you can relate-
The differences I've noticed between the 87 & 93 oct tunes. They both provide quick acceleration. The 93 oct tune really separates its self in higher rpms, where it really pulls ahead. Lastly the 87 oct tune has a lopey sound at idle and at acceleration, very noticeable sounding. I have dyno tunes and a couple of odd mods too. But I use the 93 most of the time but love the sound of the 87 and use it too!

I couldn't really hear a difference in stock and 93 race tune. Sound the same, big jump in performance now. I feel like I can take on the 05+ v6's! Even though I know I can't

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

Not stock. I have'nt used the stock program in many years, I don't think the car would run long with it. My 87 octane tune is a high performance (race) tune with the timing not so advanced, air/fuel mixture ect.. I left the dyno shop with just the two SCT tune files. Both maximized performance, just different octane ****** combustion settings.

I meant it sounds the same as stock. If I wanna go to 87 street tune do I have to return to stock and then go to 87 tune or can I just straight upload the 87 tune to the car. When I put the 93r on from the 92r I said to return to stock in between. But I her you can only return to stock 5 times before you have to pay to get it unlocked?

Well I def think the sound is better, i guess you would call it lopey/lopier...

Need to get a cam set up, then that would be lopiest....

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

You can change between tune files anytime you want while the car is off, without ever having to go back to the stock file. Just plug it in, choose a tune and upload. The high rpm's would be normal if it only lasts a day (first day).

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

NEWS ON MY END:
I am off to get my new dyno tunes tis morning at 10:00 AM. These new tunes are to address the mod work I've done since the original tune 3 years ago when all I had was a CAI, underdrive pulleys, and a catback.
Since then: Lowerintake manifold spacer, true dual exhaust w/LT headers, hi flow cats, prochamber, Flowmaster 10 series mufflers, new clutch & flywheel, 3.73 gears, egr delete, a bunch of small items.. We can compare numbers when i get back.
FYI- I hope the statistics show some information that interests some of you.

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

Got my results back-
10 HP increase over last dyno tune file runs. "holly ****" said the tech. That's a 30 HP increase with my mods
I must be doing something right.

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

I have a single port V6, the VAP lower intake spacer has been one of the best mods I've done as far as immediately feeling better low end torque. I don't know much at all about split ports, but if makes one for them, I would think there would be even better results, especially after someone has just upgraded or changed their exhaust and haven't updated their SCT tune files.

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

I put the spacer on right after I installed a dual exhaust so it was noticeable right away. Gears are the very best mod a V6 owner could do. My 3.73 gears, I got from stangmods.com, I believe they are the last ones to provide Ford Racing gear sets (as apposed to Motive or Richmond). They have been awesome, quiet as can be. RPM's at 65mph are about 2100. Highway speeds usually around 2000rpms in general. Speedometer shows you moving 5 mph faster than you really are. I never replaced the speedometer gear yet. I don't remember what color I'm supposed to install....
