I'm kinda worried about the race tune also.. I got 93 but I can only find 92 around.

Without the tune can I run 92-93 fuel in my stock car right now? Or do I need the tuner?

Well that's good. Will it hurt if I runs 93 race with 92 octane gas?

All I have around town is 91, you can run anything above 90 on the 93 tune. If ur worried go to autozone and buy a bottle of octane booster

Oh ok. Just annoying to have to do that with every tank. But sounds good hopefully I will see good gains out of it.

Simply request a 92 octane Race tune if that is all you have available in your area. It is my understanding that they can tune in one-octane increments.

You are not stuck with 85, 87, 89, 91, 93...........

92 octane is a very common number for premium in many parts of the country.

I put it in the comments, could that be what's taking so long? Just found out I don't need a 92 I have 93 around here so should I call Bama and let them know? Hoping it ships today or I will be upset because if it doesn't today it probably won't be able to make it here before the weekend.

Prolly would call them if you want to change your tune before they ship it. Even if you gotta wait another few days, it might be worth it to get that extra octane tune.

I think I'm just going to get them to ship it, and then get another time sent to my computer and I'll load it up. Will be faster back at home I only have 92, so I thought that's all we had but here in town where I go to college they have 93 lol so.. It's good.

Have them do an 87 performance, a 92 race, and a 93 race. Then as long as you burn up the different octanes you can switch tunes when you go back and fourth.

Trust me, when it comes in you'll forget all about the wait! Both of mine came in and it wasn't 5 minutes after the ups guy handed em to me and I had them both hooked up.

My delivery was very fast. Only a few days form they day I ordered it to the day it was in my hands. I did get the sct's but I wanted one for my truck too, and I wanted to get both from the same place. I called sct and they said the place they recommend for custom tunes was Punch it Performance. Mike took my order, wrote the tunes and had it shipped quick. Also when I update tunes, he's quick and his tunes have made an amazing change in my mustang and my explorer. You'll love your tuner, and what it can do for you!

I've heard of it taking up to two weeks to ship from bama for some people, some a few days. It just depends on numerous variables. It seems the average ship time is 4 days.

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

after I gave them info, it took couple days to get done, and then shipped, maybe was 4-5 days total, the shipping doesn't take long, its getting them to set it up and get it ready to ship

Good luck with that...right now it's their busy time. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago on a thursday, got the confirmation e-mail saying that it shipped out that following friday, and the box was sitting at my door on tuesday. So mine came pretty quick.

It just depends on whether you catch them at a good time. I'd think the stock/near stock v6's are pretty quick to tune.

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

Can Bama custom dyno tune? I was thinking about getting a custom camshaft and want a more precise tune then just listing my mods.

That's a good question...it'd be worth it to call and ask. They might charge for a more in depth tune but you never know.

If not consider a custom tuning vendor like VMP Tuning. I know Justin does good work on the v6 tunes.

Re: Excited for my SCT Tuner!

Does Bama in general write good tunes? They obviously have a deal with AM, but i've only seen cars tuned with dynos or data logs in person and i feel like just listing mods cant really be as effective.

Well obviously a dyno tune is your best form of tuning since the car's physically there, ran and adjusted for the mods it has.

After using the 3 "custom" tunes I got from AM and Bama, I'd say that they are decent, not as precise as a dyno tune but comparatively you pay more, and imo for 2 bolt ons the money's better spent on a handheld tuner as it has useful for more than just tunes.

There's only so much you can do with "given" info, that's why they ask if what brand of CAI, exhaust, what size rear tires, etc. They probably have programmed presets for those mods and they input them based on what you select from the questionaire.

So you get a tune that's better than the "preloaded" tunes, but not as precise or aggressive as a dyno tune, and I'd say for the average v6 owner, that's enough.

Exact opposite lol. That's what I thought but Rob at AM told me it's spring time. I'd imagine everyone local is getting their stangs in the shop to be tuned, and everyone else is ordering tuners for the start of the season.

Don't get too worried, I'm sure you'll get it by the weekend or early the following week.
