Curious about the odometer

So ive heard its a common thing for the odometer to go out in 90's stangs, and I was wondering if anyone has a clue as to what the prob is. Ive switched the gauge cluster out for a new one, and the odometer turned for three miles and stopped again.. Ideas? Im thinking its the linkage to my transmission

The odometer gear goes out. 94-98s are notorious for this.

Latemodelrestoration.com is where you need to go.

I got a 2000 v6 and I have the electronic odometer and it the display doesn't show all the time. Sometimes it's perfect others its dim and most of the time it doesn't even show up like the gauge is off. But it always records correctly... Any ideas?

I didn't have any issues with the electronic odo in my '00; if hitting it "fixes" it, something's loose.

On the contrary, I have YET to come across a 94-98 Mustang with a functional odometer.
