I think i hear valve tapping

Think I hear valve tapping very faint. Do I just remove the valve covers and tighten with a socket the rockers?

---------- Post added at 10:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:06 PM ----------

The tapping comes on some times when I turn the motor on and then goes away happens rare.

Hopefully it's just low octane gasoline try running some premium if you don't already...see if the noise goes away. Don't take your valve covers off and try to attempt to tighten anything...they are all torqued down to specs. You'd be taking a chance if you did that without proper specs and a nice torque wrench.

The noise you might be hearing may just be knocks/pings from low octane gas. Give that a shot before jumping to conclusions. Maybe that simple. Or even a exhaust manifold gasket going bad.

I run 93 all the time. Maybe too much octane booster? Too much seafoaming? To much engine restorer an additive for oil? Possibly injectors?

Wow that's low miles too. I have more on my 06 hah. Yeah see if the exhaust manifold is cracked it could be that or the gasket around the manifold.

To me its when I reach the moon: 238,855 miles thats when I'll buy a new car and retire this one to my kid. Well here's a good excuse for headers and new gaskets then. Take pics!

Re: I think i hear valve tapping

a few of the things that have been mentioned to me are a cracked header, timing chain/belt and also check where you a/c drips onto the exhaust pipe. my exhaust sounded like that and did the same thing when i seafoamed it a while back and then i was on my way home one day and it fell off just in front of the cat.

U can use the end of a screw driver on the valve cover and listen through the handle to help verify the noise. I actually have a mechanics stethoscope and it works great for pinpointing noises.

Your the genius! I did it not from the valves so I listened. Aimed at injectors, that was ticking like a clock!!! Explains the rare gasping or weird somewhat rare vibrations like its thirsting for fuel... So what do I do? Just get new injectors? I plan on running nitrous but we are talking later down the road. But for now what injectors should I run?

I don't know much about your motor. But you can pull out the injectors and clean them really good. If you look in the 70-95 useful mustang info sticky thread.. Trojan horse has info on a homemade injector cleaning rig there. If you can clean them to keep them from sticking this may save you from having to buy injectors twice. Because depending on how much nitrous you need it may be hard to pick them out that will work for na and nitrous.
