Having problems with shifter

So my 99 refuses to come out of park from time to time. If I turn the key back a little it will slide down into neutral so I can start it. Pain right in the ***. Feels like its gotta be a sensor somewhere.

Anyone have any insight?

Well, I was thinking that at first. But now that I'm noticing that turning the key back helps, I'm thinking it might be something along the lines of neutral safety or some other sensor/switch. Surely I'm not the first to have this problem.

Thanks. I haven't torn it apart yet. I was hoping to go in with a mission instead of just looking blindly.

My dads truck did the same thing, its a 97 f150 and it indeed turned out to be the neutral safety switch. Which sounds like what it is.
