v6 rear end help?

I have a 1994 3.8 mustang. I'm trying to figure out if I should get the 8.8 rear end with 3.73gears or stick with my stock rear end and get the 3.73gears that Ford racing offers for v6. What is the best option for me. I'm only planning on doing a split port swap on my mustang.

If ur not looking to make over 300rwhp don't do the swap. It's heavy and will slow you down.
Dont do the ford racing either. It's known to break even under stock power. Get the auburn t-lok. You get what you pay for.

But once you start modding you won't wanna stop. Just see where you wanna end up, then decide.

Re: v6 rear end help?

you can probably find a used 8.8 wiht 3.73 in good shape for the overall price of buying 3.73 and installing that and a tlok inyour 7.5" rear end (tlok so both wheels spin).

I would go with the 8.8 if you ever plan to take it to the drag strip or run sticky tires or any level of measurable hp/tq

Re: v6 rear end help?

At the moment I'm not planning on doing to much to my v6 just a split port swap and some bolt ons (throttle body, cold air intake, heads, etc). I don't want a car to take to the track but just a car that's a fun daily driver. I appreciate all the advice, I'm glad I joined the forum....after reading a bit more I'm thinking on keeping my 7.5 rear end and going with 4.10 gears. I hope that's the best way to go.

With those upgrades you should be okay with an auburn t-lok and 4.10 gears. There is a guy in the 05-09 v6 forum with a 7.5 auburn t-lok 3.73 gears and FI running 14s on street tires. But that won't hold when he runs slicks
The 7.5 is relatively strong until u start dragging on slicks and stuff and going more than 300 rwhp
