Different Tuning Companies

So i'm going to buy a tuner once the mustang gets back from the paint shop, and i was wondering if there are any other companies besides Bama that tunes for our cars?

Re: Different Tuning Companies

Yes, VMP. I hear Justin does a good job there in Fla. Alot of people use his tunes.
That is a good, easy way to go about doing it but FYI- you would benefit most from a dyno tune.
The advantages are that the Mustang shop inspects the car prior for free, they maximize performance by basing the tune on your cars actual information, real world/real time info. Normally a dyno tune works like this- Tuner cost $379.00 and dyno tunes created cost $130.00, so you leave with hand held and 2-3 tunes, whatever you want, just FYI options.

I believe what Robb meant by "dyno tune" was for you to take your car to a shop and have them actually put it on a dyno and run the hell out of it, make a few adjustments, and run it until it is making the absolute most power that it is capable of... then they save the tune profiles into a tuner and sell you the tuner. Those are Dyno Tunes. Tunes written for YOUR car and your car ONLY.

BAMA and VMP sell you tunes based on their personal experience tuning cars that are similarly equipped to yours. They write a generic tune with the best of intentions. While these are decent tunes which do indeed produce vast improvements over the stock tune, they fall short of a true Dyno Tune.

Find a local speed shop (preferably one that caters to Mustang owners) or at least one that tunes a lot of new computer controlled cars.

Just my 2 cents...

Re: Different Tuning Companies

Yeah, i get that. VMP also does dyno tuning if u send them a data log of your car... they dont have to tune it immediatly at the dyno place.

Re: Different Tuning Companies

Ahh I gotcha, sorry I misread the posts a bit. I was looking at them from the wrong perspective.

I should data log my car and see if they can tweak it a little?

Re: Different Tuning Companies

Basically you data log your car on a dyno, (or you can do a third gear pull on an empty road), they'll tell you what they want logged (air/fuel, timing, etc/.) and then write a custom tune for your car specifically.

Re: Different Tuning Companies

If I understand a couple of the postings, VMP & Bama can only provide you "dyno tunes" with your car physically there on on site & strapped to the dyno machine.

1000's are out there, just have to research your area etc to find someone you are comfortable with. I would HIGHLY recommend researching and talking to more than just a couple people~ if they do good work you will see it else you will see more and more bad things etc. Also check on the BBB for complaints~

Re: Different Tuning Companies

Yeah, yeah, great information. Thanks. I didn't know all that. I squeaked out 10HP more couple of weeks ago on the dyno with the longtube headers and Prochamber. I like having it put on the dyno & the shop having the capability to record/monitor & listen to anything that might be a-miss.
