Any track racers?

Is there any mustangs in northern Utah wanna get into track racing? This stupid "stop light racing" or drag racing is lame! Any one can build a blown big block that will put any car in the 6's but the real test of man and machine is on a road course.

I would look into autocrossing if you want to get into racing your car. It's a lot cheaper than track days.

Very true! Tires and brakes are often victims of track and autocross days, but the actual cost to get out there and compete is much less than a track day. The last autocross I went to cost $35, the last track day I was invited to (but not able to afford) was $350 a car at Laguna Seca.

I'm very interested. I'm working on hopefully rebuilding my motor. These stang's would just do so well on a course.

Better to practice stock, then practice with each upgrade, that way your not relearning to drive the car. Your just getting used to each new upgrade.
Hope it makes sense?
And agree, from what I read, dragging isn't easy, the perfect launch, shifts etc are quite difficult to maintain

Re: Any track racers?

if you're just playing sure, but if you're competing it's a waste of time on stock stuff with NO upgrades at all

No I understand that. Just practice slowly get used to the car, study the type of turns and how to take them, and then once ur ready go compete

Drag is difficult with the Christmas tree timing and all but it's harder to take the same power and weave it in and out of a road coarse. I respect all forms of competition racing but it just seems that this whole "underground stop light racing," which is just illegal drag racing, is just stupid considering the hype. It like kids who watch Fast and Furious too many times, "I run these streets!" lol given almost every v6 on here could prob beat me in a drag I'm not saying its easy. I think road courses even the playing field more than biggest motor, strongest drivetrain in a straight line.

Just a bit of advice, if youre gonna run, buy a second set of wheels and tires. That way you won't do like i did and go from running my tires bald during an autocross session to in a ditch off the side of the highway. I ran my first drag last night as well and could honestly say dragging was more fun. But thats mainly cause i was grudging my friends 2011 camaro the whole time

Sweet man I'll totally check those out! My one concern is the power steering pump. Fords aren't the best to begin with then you add tons of rpm fluctuation with a race. I'm afraid I will go out in the first heat!

Lol yeah. Todays automatics make it easier to drag with launch control and what not. Still, for a 12 year old car it ain't bad. I was trying not to ruin my tires since there brand new so i wasnt to worried about my bad r/t

I liked it! It reminded me of this time I squared up with a new marow at a light and he took off balls out and I remember thinking, "that car isnt that fast. I could probably stand a chance." I guess it was a v6

You could try looking in a junkyard for a wrecked mustang, f150 or crown vic that have the 4.6 v8. Youll just have to buy the harness and mounts. The engine may need a tune as well. However the 5000 dollar engine with everything isn't bad
