eek! Bad tune??

Hey guys, i recently got 4.10 gears and a auburn tlok and since i needed emmisons i had to keep my car stock well today i passed it (thank god) and i tuned my car and changed the axle ratio to 4.10 (to fix the speedo) i drove around and was all happy that my car was super quick (feels like i have a new car) however the car plays around a little and vibrates and its almost like its going to shift but isnt. So i went out to dinner and decied what the hell, lets gun it a little, i was in second gear (auto btw) and when it shifted to third the whole car jerked and a almost lost it for a second the front end was a bit all over the place. Scared the **** outta me and my sister..... so i just tryed to retune to a lower bama tune and it said the ECM couldnt be found and aborted..... it never asked me to turn the key or anything. So i set it back to stock...... whats going on? Is this all a bad tune? All thats changed with my car is the new gears and tlok...... oh and when i almost lost it the cars's rpm's were almost at 7k Help me guys!

Re: eek! Bad tune??

I'm starting to hear a lot more bad stuff about these bama tunes....I would call AM and tell them what happened.

Btw, when it shifted to third, did your tires screech? If thats the case You may want to lower the shift press on it.

Maybe a driveshaft balance is what the problem is

There's little weights in the driveshaft, kinda like a tire. Call around and see who can balance it. I've been thinking mines a little out of whack too. It's in my to do list.

Re: eek! Bad tune??

A drive shaft imbalance won't fix its self with him going back to a stock tune. It has to be something in the Bama tune that is wrong for his Mod's. If the weights came off of the drive shaft the car would just have a severe vibration. It is very very very unlikely that the balance weights on a drivshaft would come off. In my 69 years I have never heard of this happening by it's self without human intervention. Now, Drive shafts breaking "Yes" I have seen that and universal joints totally destroy them selves.

I hope Greey27 will let us know the verdict after he does his call Monday.

Re: eek! Bad tune??

I just read that the Bama tune does have some problems but only with some cars. It will be fixed when he calls them. They will get him running perfect.

Re: eek! Bad tune??

back when i first got my bama tune i didn't know my car had a shift kit in the transmission, (it revved to 6.5K and had ridiculously hard shifts, factor in the extra torque multiplication of your 4.10 gears and that's why your car jumped from the tire squalling shift) either they way overdone your trans settings or you have a shift kit in your car

I'm not familiar with the auto shifts and pressure adjustments with the tuner, so maybe what was suggested ^^^ will help you out.

If you went from a stock gear set to 4.10's then this will be a much different driving experience for you. Your car will be putting a ton of torque down on the pavement. For instance, if you could floor it through all the gears before, that may not be the case now with the 4.10's. You'll just roast the tires from start or you'll get squirrelly if you dump it while your in second. You need to get a feel for it so you know what to expect.

Re: eek! Bad tune??

contact AM, they can figure out what might be the cause. If it does it after the tune but not before it would probably be something in the tune. They can modify how hard the trans shifts etc.

Greeny27,

Hmm it does seem the tune is a little out of whack. PM me over your order number if you haven't already talked to my Bama Team yet. I'll get you taken care of with one of my best guys Mike Wilson! I'll even have Mike contact you first to gather all the info he needs and have you send in a few datalogs. Mike's awesome at diagnosing tuning troubles and he'll have you squared away in no time!

If you haven't datalogged before, check this link out for a step by step instruction.

Also, Let me know if there's anything else I can take care of for you. I'll be happy to do anything I can!

Okay will do. Let me know when you get everything figured out with SCT. Then we'll get things rolling with Mike Wilson and your tune!

SCT is great and I'm sure they've gone over this with you, but just in case this can help in any shape or form, here's a step by step on how to data log.
