Question Last Resort. PLEASE Help.

Hi everyone, I'm having A LOT of trouble with removing my shift knob on my 03 auto. I've read other posts on how to, and that I will have to put it in 1st and pull and that's not the problem. The problem is that the previous owner stripped the screw on the backside of the original knob trying to remove it himself. So I've read a couple posts and googled it and it suggested to drill through the screw and itll hopefully break and come out or to use a screw extractor. I tried both of these and neither worked. All it caused was for the screw to get buried somewhere in the knob and now I have no idea how to remove it or the shift knob itself. I called Ford and they said they'd charge me 110 bucks an hour to work on it regardless of if it was fixed or not so that is not an option. Any suggestions/ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Last Resort. PLEASE Help.

you can probably go to a junk yard and buy an OEM shifter mechanism then swap out yours for it. That might be the easiest fix overall~ not sure what else to tell you a junk yard swap would be cheap if you can do the work yourself. The shift knob shouldnt cause a problem in removing the shifter.

Re: Last Resort. PLEASE Help.

try to find a pull a part junk yard, you remove the part yourself with your own tools but its cheaper~ and if you remove it you can learn how to put it back in lol. Not sure of linkage or what ever, I would read a How To on shifter install and they will go through the paces of removing the stock one, just reverse that for the new. I bet AmericanMuscle has a how to~
