A little late but gonna chime in on the "damaging the seals" thing.. I've been told from multiple mechanics and car people that the only way to really blow out your seals is to put too much oil in . Weight doesn't really affect the engine unless you wrong the wrong weight in the wrong temperature in which case the oil may become too viscous and cause overheating.

Just my two cents I've picked up here and there.

I should be safe year round with the 10w40 right? Winter and summer?

Idk personally I would think that 1040 is to thick for winter. But that's just me

I usually go with 10/30 in the summer and 5/30 in the winter. Seems to work well for me
