Alright, makes sense. A good cam setup is gonna run you up near $1000 though. And probably give you more than 10 to the wheels, depending on the cam.

1000$

You can get cams for 250$
if you stay under .54 lift you don't need valve springs.
if you go with a regrind you would need 80$ push rods
and timing cover gasket and rtv to do the install + 50$

380$ cam swap if you do your own work.

Another 40$ if you wanna swap the timing chain while your doing it.

Re: Need a cheep 10 horsepower

david has a pretty impressive v6, he has been down the bolt on road and seen it dosent give you much power, he has built a pretty impressive motor also wich gave him good power, if i was ignorant to v6 mustangs and needed advice i would listen to him rather than this dude cryin a TB on a N/A v6 is going to make any dfference, so wat if it has good reviews? iv heard alot of good things about drugs but that dosent make them good right? if you believe everything you read online you will be a stupid (er) mofo, t

Re: Need a cheep 10 horsepower

I want to preface this by saying "I AM DRUNK"! OK, so now that we clearly understand THAT part, allow me to continue....

I just want to point out a few things:

I am going to paraphrase my deceased father (the hard core motorhead and PhD in Physics)...

"Stock engines don't benefit from only ONE mod, whether it is on the intake side or the exhaust side. You must work on both sides in order to have any measurable gains".

So, what I glean from that is simply this: "In order for a 65mm BBK throttle body, a CAI, or a ported upper and lower intake to make ANY difference at all you MUST ALSO open up the exhaust to an equal proportion". Anything listed above will be beneficial and it will increase intake air flow. NOW the intake is OPEN!

Any modifications to the exhaust MUST include a minimum of the replacement of the stock exhaust system which may be either an aftermarket dual exhaust past the Y (least favorable option), or a true dual exhaust system that is A) Divorced duals, B) an X-pipe, C) an H-pipe, or D) a pro chamber. It also may incorporate a pair of ported heads with an awesome valve job, or a cam shaft that is ground to have a higher lift and longer duration than stock, or any combination of the above. NOW the exhaust is OPEN!

Once the intake and exhaust have BOTH been opened sufficiently you will indeed experience measurable gains in performance.

Come on fellas, it's not rocket science... Each side of the combustion chamber must be opened or "relieved of restriction" to a similar degree in order to achieve noticeable gains.

Forced induction is not relevant in this conversation simply because Mr PhD has never had a vehicle that was not naturally aspirated, and neither have I.

I am finished lecturing, and I just checked... yup, I am still drunk.

Just my 2 cents...

it all comes down to exhaust velocity on the "open exhaust"

I just run no filter with it dumped right after the manifolds. That flows pretty good.

Lol at this thread

Why just 10 hp.??

At the end of the day no matter how you get there its still a minimal gain an not going to make a huge difference in anything.

I dipped my air filter in PlastiDip, it filters so good and flows like a dream. I also dipped my valves in plastidip and gained 10 HP just from that

Plastic dip your computer and you won't even need a tuner. Plastic dip your exhaust, intake, and mix it in your fuel 1000hp
