All 99-04 v6 are the same. The only difference is that 01-04 have a different spoiler and a different cup holder console. Then 03-04 got the old 99-01 cobra hood.

3 HP isn't a huge difference. It's like saying that your shower is hotter in the winter...

Re: Is this car a good deal?

DON'T buy the 94-98 v6....no offense to the guys/gals who own one but if you can get away with an 99-04 v6 or a 94-98 GT get it.

The 94-98 v6's are single ported and have a 2.73 gear ratio. Rated at ~145-150 bhp depending on the year.

The 99-04 v6's are split ports with refinements to the intakes, exhaust and also have 3.27 gears.

99-00's are 190 bhp 220 tq and 01-04's are 193 bhp and 225 tq.

That's a ~45hp difference, and you really feel it. Go drive a single port then a split port.

The 2004 3.9's are basically the same as the 3.8's. What matters is performance, and that's identical, so don't let anyone tell you the 3.9 is faster or rated higher.

The 99-04 v6's aren't fast by any means, but they are quicker and perform much better than a 94-98 v6 stock for stock.

3500 does seem high for that 00 v6. There are a couple 94-98 GT's with around the same mileage on my local craigslist asking 3-4k.

As said by many get a solid inspection from a shop YOU trust. Don't go to some place the seller wants to take the car.

If there are some major issues with the car or something that could happen 5k miles down the road, simply walk away. There's always another car.

Re: Is this car a good deal?

Now, since i am currently 16, how bad will the insurance be for a 2000 3.8 v6? I will be under my dad's insurance with him as the primary driver I believe. How much would I pay per month? Not asking for exact numbers, just some guesses/ estimates.

My insurance I got when I was 18 and it hasn't changed been around 100 per month. The new 87 Gt has cheaper insurance lol

That seems like an amazing deal but like everyone has been saying be careful that it isn't too good to be true. Plus it's an awesome color but I may be a little biased

honestly ford ran out of 3.8's just after '04 started, and had 3.9 parts left over from their other lines...not a big deal, just fun to say you have a 3.9 lol...heck i even put it on my hood scoop.

i've been paying $200 a month on insurance since i was 16...even when i swapped to a GT it only went up $10 a month...of course now that i'm married and about to put me and my wife on a dual account our combined total will be less then $130 a month.

location is everything on car insurance btw...here in TN boys will pay more then girls, and v6 stangs are considered sports cars lol.

At 16 with a red v6 auto 1999 was $70 for liability/comprehensive/uninsured

At 17 (Now) with a black GT standard 2003 is $85 for liability/comprehensive/uninsured

That's through Allstate on my moms plan (2005 Lincoln navigator).
