exhaust leak

Does anyone else have a ticking sound in their exhaust? I've seen another mustang with it, and I wondered if it was a common problem.

It's a very common problem.. Look at your manifolds for cracks and black..

I'm kinda pissed because when I bought the car the dealership said its normal and then it seals up.. Wtf did I no.. He said nothing was cracked..

I had the same problem. You can use a stethoscope to locate the location of the crack but I'd bet it's on the exhaust manifold like the other guy said. It's usually the passenger side. If the ticking goes away eventually then it is an exhaust leak. When the exhaust pipe get hot it expands and the crack is sealed (thus making the ticking stop) you can replace the manifold or the manifold gasket. Oorrrr you could have a lifter Tick. Those arnt too rare either

My manifold was cracked when I bought it, welded it back together, but now I sound like a timer going down the road.

If it was a lifter it would be a very fast tick

Re: exhaust leak

Don't mean to ask a stupid question but, When at idle, does the tapping go away when you put slight pressure down on clutch petal?

Re: exhaust leak

just find the leak and have it welded up, unless it's just a gasket, in that case you know the drill...
