Thinking about buying an 88 lx 5.0 vert.

Is there anything I need to know about these years? I would be keeping my v6 for a daily driver still. I am just unfamiliar with the year and engine and I am not sure what to look for.

Rust.. In and around strut towers, battery tray, door jams and hinges, and of course the under side.

I see some rust on the bottoms of the front fenders. I have a guy who does good bodywork for cheap so I'm not too worried about that. Might just have it all painted black as it is red right now, and I hate having to match paints with red.

If you've already spotted rust on the outside of the car be sure to check everywhere thoroughly as rust spreads fast!
If it has visible rust be careful not to over pay.
sounds like you have it covered and under control though.

Yeah because there's not a spot of rust visible on mine but I have to replace 2 floor pans

He is asking only 1200. From what I can see it only needs body work which is a plus. I am sure the top could be replaced as well. The car has 90k miles.

Just got an email back from him. He says the radiator leaks and he is not sure if it's a line or the radiator. He mentioned the rust on the fenders without me asking and he said he has two new fenders already prepped, alone with other new parts (of which he hasn't mentioned specifically). Also other than that the engine runs strong and the exhaust sounds great. I think I need to go for a test drive eh?

Just went to go look at it... It was a mess, even for the 1.2k he was asking. But.. I am trying to trade my 02 for this real nice 89 5.0 that needs nothing!
