IRS conversion for 99-04 3.8

Ones anybody know if it's possible or even worth it to do an IRS conversion? Or should I stick with the solid axle and just gear up to an 8.8, 4.10 ratio?

Re: IRS conversion for 99-04 3.8

depends is this gonna be a hardcore auto x car? if not then either a tlok & gears, or an 8.8 & gears will be all you'll need. if you're gonna auto x it though then yes it's a swap a few do....for a DD it's kinda overkill and pricey

Yea that would make sense. I was just trying to find out of anybody on here has done it. If its too pricey then I'll most likely go with an 8.8 tlok. I've always been fond of IRS though. Cuts down a lot on body roll and gives better handling hands down. It all depends on how much I can find IRS set up for.

It's a direct bolt in, just pricey. I honestly haven't noticed that much difference going with a built sra over my irs

You think I'd just be better off just swapping with an 8.8, at 4.10 ratio instead of swapping to IRS?

I think you can get better handling for less with the stick axle. The only reason to go irs would be for the coolness factor

Quad shocks would prolly help with handling as well as wheel hop... I don't know much about them tho

after the irs is in, can a cobra catback fit on the v6? or how does that work? i like the irs just because it looks badass when the car is slammed with fat *** tires.

I threw those away as soon as I got my solid home. Good control arms solve the need for them.

You should be able to bolt it up to any midpipe.
Also... I put my irs catback on my sra after the swap. Just had to fabricate some hangers

I've sold 3 in the past year...just search craigslist/forum sites/etc. Expect to spend a pretty penny though, $300 and up for aftermarket used.
