peak power for 3.8L?

What is the peak amount of toque/hp that the 3.8's block can handle b4 it becomes unreliable or dangerous (Risk of blowjng the block, block cracking, etc)?

I believe it is between 350 and 450. The supercharger kits, unless stated, wont exceed the blocks capacity.

Re: peak power for 3.8L?

Ive heard (through extensive research) 500ish for the block. I'm projected to push 420ish at the motor, possibly more. You're automatic trans is d&^n near hard to break (that 4R70W is tougher than nails) and your rear end is stout as well (being in the 8.8 family).

Moral of the story, you have a solid foundation to work with and build power.

Re: peak power for 3.8L?

the block has never been broken with power

the factory internals can handle 350-375rwhp daily driven but then again i've seen stock internal cars push 450+hp and last a while

if you get too much power (600+ i believe) or rev too far i've heard talk of the crank walking around but you can help that with a main stud girdle

the trans with few mods can take a hell of a beating (cooler/stall/shift kit)

the 7.5 rear is a mystery sometimes, if you get the ford racing diff like i have it's supposedly not good past 275rwhp but some are lucky, whereas the auburn diff for the 7.5 is pretty strong and according to auburn can take 500rwhp, but honestly with as easy as it is to swap to an 8.8 rear just do that

and fourloko, go ahead and swap over if you plan boost

when i hear low boost i think 8psi or so, personally i know SSM stage 3 heads with a windstar and ported lower and a comp 218/226 cam makes ~240rwhp through a stalled auto, factor in 8 psi from a SC and i would guesstimate 350ish range on the wheels

Trust me talk to Kyle it'll be better for you bank account and with his custom cam will get you more power for less

If you get the same exact stuff it would be around there, every car is different, btw I have. 4.2 bottom end swap so you wouldn't have the 245tq I made probably

Re: peak power for 3.8L?

as said 325-375rwhp if the tune is good is about the limit the engine can take stock~ I would say the lower end = longer life.

With the 3.8L, what is the usual mod for boost, a turbo or supercharger? Or really, which one would be the better choice anyway?

Re: peak power for 3.8L?

turbo = more power but the cost is more, at least you have more room in the engine bay so it works out rather good.

12psi on a turbo = 330-350 rwhp on the V6~ or there about with a good tune.

so who makes a turbo kit....? pretty much no one, you can google TMA turbo kits, he used to make good ones but not sure they still do it, cost will end up being 7-10k~

so for the money you could sell your car and get something else it all just depends on what you want to do, as mod investments dont = upgrade in car value lol
