speedo not working..

Okay this question is the whole reason i joined this forum and this is my 3rd time asking because no one answered the other times i asked it.

I have a 1998 v6 manual transmission, Okay so the owner before me swaped out my transmission with 2000 v6 manual trans runs great except my speedodimer dosnt work because the speed sensor is unpluged

When i plug it in the speed is way off it says im going like 40 in 1st gear and like 60-80 in 2nd

Anyone know why it does this????:/

Op what year is your car? And is the transmission in your car the same one that was in it from the factory? Like t5, t45 ect.

Re: speedo not working..

Is your gage cluster stock or is it a newer setup from a +99 car?

I believe the 94-98 speedometers were gear driven while the electronic versions are sensored.

The worm gear could be worn or possibly be the incorrect one.

Re: speedo not working..

in 99 they swaped to a different form of keeping track of the speedometer vs a gear driven system in pre 99 T-5 transmissions used in the 3.8L.

If you have the output shaft swaped back over to the old style it will still work but read wrong as the OEM gearing is 2.73 but the 99+ is 3.27~

So what I've gathered is the previous owner is a ******, and put in a t45 trans where a t5 should be. No wonder it's not working.

I'm betting they can. They can prolly just change the gearing in it to try an be as accurate as can be with your actual speed.
