Question Straight back exhaust on 02 v6

Hey guys just wondering if you could cut the y pipe out of the exhaust and run dual original 40's no mid pipe to the back cause I went to a shop and they said they can only run 1 muffler with the y pipe with dual tail pipes for 600 and I've seen people run straight backs with dual flows and had them installed for under 400. So help me leave comments.

sure you can cut the Y pipe off and weld on duals, you do not need a balancer pipe as its an even fire engine as well.

It wont sound great with no mufflers but it can be done.

Yah that's definitely possible...sounds like this exhaust shop is yankin your chain man.

All a shop has to do is cut off the stock y-pipe, AFTER the cats, so nothing illegal is being done, then weld two separate, divorced pipes in place of that y-pipe to your mufflers and then over the axles into tips or dumped or whatever you want to do.

I would highly suggest chambered mufflers though...straight pipes don't sound good on v6's, hell I don't even like them on the v8 cars. Get some chambered flowmasters, Dynomax, or Pypes Street Pros...the car won't be as loud as straight pipes but that's a good thing.

i run no mufflers and a mac prochamber....have for quite a while. i have run super 40s, original 40s, thrush welds, and some generic flow brand..i prefer no mufflers over any of those

@op call as many shops as possible...quoting other shops to their competitors can really help get a lower cost...also never settle for what they want to do. you tell them you wnat the y pipe cut off and get it how you want. remember you hear it daily not them

no you won't lose any tq or acceleration....the power band just shifts a bit..you'll gain more top end if anything when it does.

here's a crappy pic of mine lol...just show a shop a pic like this and they'll get the idea...i run a midpipe so for you unless you want one too just to change the tone of the exhaust tell them to leave it a true dual exhaust

I run divorced duals after the cats with flowmaster 40's! It sounds great, but its not quite as loud as i would like at times.
