Brighter headlights?

Do local auto stores sell brighter head lights than stock? and how much more expensive would they be (estimation)?

Re: Brighter headlights?

yes you can buy "brighter" halogen bulbs for about $50 a set at any autoparts store, but their still pretty dim. Or you could pay $30-50 for a set of HIDs (+shipping)

and because i know the next set of questions to come..

-35w is fine unless you have tinted housings
-color temp is a personal preference but i wouldn't go over 6 if you want good visible light and not just blue looking headlights
-you won't need any other wiring harnesses then what comes in the kit
-bulb size is 9007 ($30 for just a low beam light) or buy the 9007 hi/lo ($50 but allows you to use your highbeam)

honestly i just run the single beam setup because i don't feel that i need a high beam. if you live in the middle of nowhere you might want it though

if you have any other questions just ask...and yes the HID kit is pretty much plug and play

here's a comparison...Silverstar Ultras on the left car, and 35w 6k HIDs on the right

Re: Brighter headlights?

damn haha thanks a lot, i just feel the need to brighten my headlights a little due to any future videos of recording myself driving. the footages i have from the past, you can barely see anything especially coming down/going up the mountain with no street lights. oh and i don't have tinted housing, i don't plan on darkening the headlights themselves, just want to brighten it up for personal convenience and filming purposes

well some places do....your average auto parts..although you're better off buying online because those shops that sell them will charge 2 to 3 times more then the kits are worth

I just called my local auto parts store this morning and they actually do sell the silverstar ones. haven't tried to search for HIDs yet but knowing the area I live in, I'd have to get really lucky

Re: Brighter headlights?

I can show you some pics of HID VS Halogen Sylvania SilverStaer zXe. These are the whitest low watt bulbs I've found.
SilverStar zXe Halogen:

What if I compared the range between the two? Do HIDs cover a farther distance than the zXe's?

Re: Brighter headlights?

Driving with any halogens is dangerous as hell for me. I have Black Beauties and the housing is naturally, black & I have to have HID's installed to safely drive at night. I just got the cars headlights aimed downward quite a bit and it provides a clear cross-over of illuminated roadway. Right now I'm using 35W 6K bulbs. I'm looking for a high quality set of 5K bulbs next.

Since i'm known for this now:
hid's are illegal in your car and dangerous to other drivers on the road.
I don't care what anyone on here says, using hid's in a halogen housing should never be done and will always lead to scattered light output.
More and more areas are beginning to crack down on these illegal lights and will not allow you to pass inspection with them.

Re: Brighter headlights?

Yes they are illegal. However i havent met an officer that cares if you run them anywhere around here. Even when pulled over for other reason non of my illegal mods like hids, tint, or tail lights are even brought up. I guess it depends on your location though

Re: Brighter headlights?

Yes, using HID kits in our generation car is illegal and most all of our light fixtures ( With exception of some semi-professionally custom projectors) will produce a blinding over glare from a scattered light pattern. Potentially dangerous to on cumming drivers.
-I have seen some beautifully made projectors with appropriate lenses & safe to use, though still technically illegal.
